Yes you need vip to change to a name of your choice, unless you want to change your name to your habbo name, which is free I think

Yeah Bloop has pretty much got it. If you are wanting a name that isn't the same as your Habbo, you either need to be VIP or you can post around the forum and win Events, Comps etc to get tokens. 1500 Tokens allows you to change your forum name to whatever you want :)

If you want your Habbo name you need to add @Phil (http://www.habboxforum.com//www.habboxforum.com/member.php?u=67954); or @Nick (http://www.habboxforum.com//www.habboxforum.com/member.php?u=75119); on Habbo to give them proof it's you!
