Fast budget PC for £395.91

I know some of the people in this part of the forum really love computers, so I wanted to know what you think of my idea for a budget sort of fast PC. Itemised price list below.

The only parts I am not buying are things I've saved from old builds: SATA cables, GPU, Windows Install Disk, PSU and fans.

I am in need of a second PC to power 2, maybe 3 28" monitors and run lots of demanding software; Adobe Audition, Cubase, whatever else... I will only ever be using the PC for music/video and graphics work so it will never be cluttered up with rubbish software I do not need.

If it does get built and all goes to plan, it will be around the 14th of Jan, I might post the build process too if anybody is interested.

Motherboard: ASRock 970 Extreme3 R2.0
Main Storage: Kingston 240GB SATA 3 SSD
Secondary: Toshiba 2TB SATA III 3.5" HDD Drive
RAM: Kingston HyperX Savage 8GB DDR3 2400MHz - Will be clocked down to 1600MHz
Sound Card: Asus Xonar DG 5.1 Surround Sound Card
Case: CiT Dominator Gaming Black Midi Tower Case

Your motherboard should come with some fresh new SATA cables for starters :P
Onboard audio is quite good on the majority of decent motherboards now so you may find the sound card disappointing. Perhaps consider not buying that now and if you feel like you need it, invest in it later.

It's been so long since I replaced the motherboard on my current PC that I forgot they are usually kind enough to give you a few SATA cables :D You have a point about the sound card, in an ideal world I would be buying one of the very high end ones so the PC could eventually power my studio when it's built.

If you're doing heavy video editing at a professional level I'd recommend more ram as it can be very intense and you'll also need a graphics card

I was thinking about adding more ram but its enough to work with. I have a r9 280x card sitting in a box, that should do the job

I would definitely need more RAM if you are using demanding software on 2-3 monitors. Also like peteyt said you need a graphics card. You want to be paying for what you think you need.

I will probably end up getting more RAM when I have the money to upgrade my monitors. I was thinking about getting a less expensive motherboard/processor so I could buy more RAM but I've decided a better CPU/motherboard are more important.

I already have an AMD R9 280X GPU that I'm not using. I've never seen it struggle before so I will just use that.

Ditch the soundcard and SSD in favor of a 7200RPM Storage HDD and more ram

Personally i'd say more RAM needed as I use more than that on my current one.

I think I will add more ram each time I add a monitor, as for getting rid of the SSD for a hard drive, you must be insane?

No I'd just rather have more RAM first, then the SSD later.

If that makes me "insane" then so be it.

Don't take the 'insane' comment to heart, I just think it is a lot of messing about to have everything you need on a hard drive and then reinstall every little thing back for the SSD and during the time when you're using the hard drive things will be so slow anyway that you won't really notice the extra ram
