I am probably worrying too much, but i've started noticing that my wisdom teeth will probably come through very shortly (i believe one is just starting to)

How will I know if I need to get them taken out, will they cause me pain if so? I know some people just have theirs come through and they leave them there but idk how you know if you should get em taken out or not (pain is the only thing i can assume).

ALSO is there a specific age people tend to have them come through, some guy at my old workplace was 22 when he had his come through soo I'm kinda shocked I'm 18 and can feel them about to come through?

I'm sorry if I seem stupid omfg

well i'm 22 and i have one wisdom tooth which i don't think has even come in properly because it's small in comparison to my other teeth? but i remember it pushing through when i was about 18 and it took a while to form into what it is atm, only a little pain but really not much at all. my dentist has never said anything about it so i assume mine is normal. they usually start late adolescence so you're fine but they don't all come through at once.
my jaw is small and i already have crooked teeth cause of it so i'll probably need mine removed if the other ones come through
i think my mum had to get one removed. maybe ask ur parents if they have similar jaws

Depends whether it grows straight or not. Some get them taken out but many don't bother. I have 1 and it hasn't caused me any pain

I had four adult molars removed two years ago to allow space for my wisdoms to come through because it's easier to take out molars than wisdoms. There's nothing to worry about, just next time you visit your dentist ask them and they'll take a look for you and tell you if any action needs to be taken.

Honestly though mine have been sat under the surface of my gums for about a year right now and occasionally the very top will poke through but they seem to just be camping out there.

I got all four of my wisdom teeth pulled out last summer 'cause they made it difficult to eat certain foods (Cheetos, snack wrap, etc) and I was in a bit of pain sometimes. An oral surgeon numbed my mouth really well and it didn't really take long to take them out - maybe 'bout fifteen minutes? A couple of hours later though I was in sooooo much pain, but I was given strong medicine...then I knocked out for a couple of hours. I woke up and I was alright (well minus the blood in my mouth).

You can have your dentist check 'em when they start to grow a bit/when you feel pain (or at your next appointment?) and they'll let you know where to go from there.

Mine have literally taken years to come down and they still aren't fully. I didn't have any pain. I thought it was if you didn't have enough room for them, you got them removed.

Depends on the shape of your jaw and what angle they grow through in as well!

I was 13 when some of mine started to come through. You won't have to get them out unless they come in wrong. Which will cause A LOT of pain if they do. While they are coming in they will cause pain but don't all teeth as they come in? Especially molars? You can get them really whenever. Just as long as you have your 1st and 2nd molars. Usually called your 12 & 13 year old molars. Like I said, I started to get mine at 13, so if you think you are early just remember me xD but I got all my teeth and molars early. Once you start noticing them come through and start feeling the pain I advise you go to the dentist as soon as you can to see if you will need them taken out or not. Your biggest sign you need to watch for is the pain. If it gets to severe go to the dentist and you might need to get them removed. They usually take them out if they think dental hygiene will be a problem and/or if they aren't coming through right. People usually get them 17-23 their late teens. So really, you fit right in!

I think I have 2 or 3 of mine and i'm 17.

I've had problems with them in the past and they have been a bit sore but they have their moments. I can go for months and months without any pain then i'll end up cutting my gum or something at the back of my mouth (where they are coming through) and then the tooth will start hurting for about a week. They are really really slow though ;/ I don't want to get them out - that looks so horrible.

Weirdly enough, this thread made me realise that my wisdom teeth were coming back though. Had toothache for just under a week now I believe.

All 4 of my wisdom tooth have started coming through at some point, I was getting pain with a couple of them and I understood if it continued I would need them out. None of them are fully though, my bottom ones have the gum around them yet they've not broken through at all, the bottom ones have, the one broken through before I believe it's my right hurt, but had enough room to grow as I don't have a tooth at the back apparently. However, this one now is hurting and it's my bottom left and feeling it, I don't think it has enough room to grow? It hasn't really broken through yet, and I'm sure it's my wisdom tooth, but time will tell :P.

My wisdom teeth came up mid to late last year and was hardly in pain, something though I notice I bite my skin at back of mouth now but hey ho.

I'm just glad to have an extra set of teeth, the more the merrier because you only ever get one set

According to my dentist, if they start coming through at 18 you'll have a "rapid" growth of them (ie, one might come all the way through in the space of a year, or quicker). But you turn 19 and they apparently slow right down?

Pain isn't always an indication, unless it's severe, if you keep getting gum infections around the wisdom teeth (like small inflammations all the time) then you may need them out. It's different with every person and if you're really worried just go get them checked out.

I have two of my top ones and got a good bit of pain from them. Now my bottom ones are growing in and they can both be extremely painful for me, one is popping out and the other is growing out at an angle it seems :( don't really wanna visit dentist here as I don't have an NI number and don't think I can really afford it. I think if I go home I can have it done for free though :)

I have one on my left side which pushed through when I was 16/17. It's actually really annoying because it grew out weirdly, thankfully not so that it effected my other teeth, but it grew so that there's like the PERFECT GAP for food to get caught in there, I spend half my life trying to dislodge bits from there. Eurgh. Nothing painful tho.

I'd go to the dentist and have them look at how its growing and see if it will cause any problems, I wish I had done so maybe they could have gotten it to grow at the right angle rather than how mine is :P

One fully grown and three partly grown. They hurt a bit when they are pushing through but not enough to get them taken out. It's just like teething as a kid, unless it doesn't grow straight.
