I'm trying to get the cost as close to £500 and I did with this build (got it to £511) and then remembered I needed an OS :(

Here is the link to the build (http://uk.pcpartpicker.com/p/xcVPGX)

(I know some of u will suggest torrenting the OS but I have no experience in that sort of stuff)

Why not find a key for Windows7-8.1 and install that on there? Free upgrade to Windows 10.

Any old computer you or a friend has will have the key on the bottom, most likely. If not, you can find it in your OS. Just wipe the hard drive of whichever system the key is currently being used for.

Alternatively, purchase Windows 8.1 via the Microsoft Store (cheaper than Amazon); http://www.microsoftstore.com/store/msuk/en_GB/pdp/Windows-8.1-Pro-Student/productID.288533400

Only if you are a student though.

So I would wipe the hard drive and then the key which I found on the PC would work?

Personally I'd do this:

Upgrade ram to 16GB
Changed the HDD to an SSD
Get Windows 8.1 not Windows 7
