Why did you join HabboxForum? [+Rep]

Hey guys,

I don't know if you have noticed or not (lol) but the Forum isn't half as popular and/or active as it used to be and I want to try and tackle this problem.

I'm going to start this by asking you guys two questions:

1. Why did you join HabboxForum?
2. Why did you stay?

By having this information it will hopefully give me ideas on areas to concentrate most on the forum and on the client, what departments I need to work with, where I need to spend more time etc.

If anyone also has any ideas to increase registration stats and ideas on maintaining new members I'm open to suggestions.

Why did you join HabboxForum? Jess and Melisa on the radio were great! The giveaways really. Won a few events got offered rep, joined the forum.
Why did you stay? I stayed because the community was fun and active.

applications were open for a job so I stuck around (didn't even get it lmaoo but you know me, that just made me more determined to get in)

I think Rare Values becoming effectively obsolete because of the marketplace definitely hasn't done Habbox any favours :(

how did i find it? although ive agreed with the idea of closing the value department, i found habbox while searching for item prices. but that was 5 years ago. close the department.

used to be most interested in graphics section til i got bored of the whole hobby, and the sports section is good when there's something big going on but other than that just boring and most of the good threads are in spam.

im mostly still here because of habit. i'll leave soon i guess.

I actually used the Habbox main site for years because of its rare values, I never even knew anything about a forum that existed while doing so. I found out a long time later about the forum and joined it also because of rare values, as I was curious as to how much a thumbs up trophy was worth due to never seeing it before.

However we can all agree that rare values are ALMOST useless now.

Right now I stay because I just like reading all of the different posts and threads by people. I also play the events hosted by Habbox on habbo and on the forum, although they aren't really the reason I stay.

I signed up because I had to send a PM to apply for EO in 2011. Left for a year because some stupid guy named Dilusionate wouldn't accept my app :@ then came back because Alex offered me a trial lolol
I stayed to wait until someone resigned from competitions so that apps would open lmao. I'd never used a forum before this 1 so I had no idea how to even use it I was such a noob lol

I joined originally because of an advert I saw on Habbox.com whilst using rare values. I joined and didn't use the forum for over a year. I returned out of curiosity and then I got a job and the rest is history!

I stayed because the Habbox community seemed wonderful and it was so fun and great

I assume I joined because somebody on the radio told me to do so and back then I was a major radio addict !! I honestly don't know why I stayed, I began making friends I guess throughout the years and then managed to meet my someone special so I have a connection with it

I joined the forum because I was familiar with the helpdesk and everyone on habbo used the main site to value their items so it had a large and diverse userbase. I stayed because the graphics section was the most active and advanced of all habbo forums and there were always things going on. What Ross pointed out is right, there's no reason to use the forum because everybody has the same attitude towards contribution and people very rarely make threads outside of spam or only do so to request help with something (usually in exchange for rep) or sell their furniture or some other service. I've said it before but I'll say it again - there is little to no desire for upper management [and now lower management, staff, and normal members] to interact with their community [unless they want something from them]. Forums are for discussion, not just habbo news, and nobody cares enough to prompt it in any form unless they have something to gain. Figure out what motivates posters (and more importantly thread creators) and build from there. Your issue with user retention lies with the unwelcoming atmosphere and banality of the community that want things but will only passively contribute.

To join HabboxLive. I had an interest in radio and remembered that Habbox Fansites had radios. Despite what I said in my very first application (that I was an avid listener), I picked Habbox from the list of official list of fansites at random :D

I made friends with people, well, "friends". I then went into other departments for something new and have never really got so bored that I want to go forever

I joined HabboxForum because I wanted to become Habbox staff and knew I had to have a Forum account to be Habbox staff so I joined and shortly after become staff.

I don't want to stay because Calum0812; is still here. hahaha I joke. I stayed because I liked the community and there was always something to do.

I used Habbox for Rare Values and I used to browse the forum in 2005 as a non-member looking at furniture news in the UK News & Rumours section, then one day the then-General Manager 8Freak8 appeared in my trading room and offered me Habbox sponsorship. I think it was around then it was suggested to me to apply to rare values so I signed up and shortly afterwards became staff after Smiddy1234 hired me.

2. Why did you stay?

Probably rare values really, but then again I got to know a lot of people on the forum and you sort of end up sticking about: I also found Habbox Forum a lot more grown up than the likes of ClubHabbo and ThinkHabbo which were more geared towards younger players imo. I can't say why I stayed after that really, I moved to HHGS job wise and was permed by ---MAD--- for a short while and then was unpermed and came back after Immenseman had asked me to rejoin rare values. Since then i've been here.

I think many of the comments go to show that it was Rare Values which made Habbox in the earlier days and even before the Marketplace was introduced it has been HabboxLive which has grown (and replaced) RVs as the main/most important department by a large margin. It appears that radio shows are still popular on the hotel and a lot of emphasis is placed on them by fansites (look at TH and CH which didn't have RVs - yet how successful they were) so it's pretty clear to me which is our most important asset these days.

Hard to say. It might have been because I became interested in doing graphics, or I might have became interested after joining Habbox. After looking at my posts, it seems like MissAlice got me to sign up to enter competitions then I didn't use it for 4 months and then it became more to do with graphics. Pixel art/alterations used to be quite a big thing in 2006-2008 then it just started to slump until very few people actually posted.

2. Why did you stay?
I was going to say graphics, but I realise it hasn't been good for many more years than I thought. It's hard to say why I stayed around from around 2009-2012 and I suspect if I started to use Reddit sooner, I wouldn't have. I would have to say it's getting to know a lot of the people in greater depth that made me stay which is a result of me using HxF Minecraft server and then being persuaded to come on for HxSS in 2012.

I'd not even heard of Habbox until my friend told me about HabboxLive and I became obsessed with it in late 2010/early 2011. Then I heard about the forum and decided to sign up.
I was completely intimidated by everyone on here for all of 2011 though and didn't start posting properly until about mid 2012. Then I guess I stayed because it was preferable to real life at the time and now it's just habit. Probably not a helpful answer but it's true so yh.

The thing that got me to sign up in the first place was primarily the radio and the events. I was ONLY interested in on-client stuff in 2011ish.

I won a Win a Room competition with DJs Robbie and Raaaave and they told me to sign up as they'd post a thread congratulating me!

I didn't, at first. I quite for almost a year before getting back into Habbo again and I came on Habbox because I think I saw someone mention it in a room and I tuned into the radio I think? I can't really remember tbh. I stayed because I became friends with a few people - Oli (Hecktix) and James despect;) were asking after me when I acidentally got banned and it made me feel wanted! I then got a job and stayed because of those positions.

My friends in real life at the time (when they played Habbo) enjoyed tuning into Habboxlive to win stuff. I guess I made it a habit of tuning in and got familiar with quite a few of the djs. I went into HxL party rooms and HxHD and people were always telling me to make an account so I did.

2. Why did you stay?

Initially I didn't. I think I signed up in 2010 but didn't actually start posting properly until late 2011. I didn't see the point of it and got really really confused as to the point of it and how to use it. I think after my break I came back and joined in again, deciding to sign up to Events. I stayed because of the Events and I actually really enjoyed hosting them and being a staff member. I stay now because it's become a bad habit lmao, also I've met so many people that I consider my friends.

I joined back in 2011 because of HxSS and HabboxLive was preeeeeeettty popular.

I can't say that I've stayed for a long while because I went to ThisHabbo for about 2 years (until very recently when I decided to leave because of studies and the people there... shudders) but overall the community here is really warm and close-knitted and you don't feel like an outsider on this forum. One thing I suggest that Habbox should probably focus on is radio because I honestly think that aside from the forum, its the only thing that can bring in newcomers. (But considering that I haven't logged onto Habbo for a year, I guess my opinion is invalid.)

I'm so glad you've improved in graphics since then.

1. My sister had told me about Habbox for Rare Values before, I then heard DJ Melissa doing a competition so I tried entering, but I got her Habbo name wrong. Then in Easter 2009 I started playing in the HxEE (only for a week) and came 2nd, but a part of the prize was VIP so I had to sign up.

2. I stayed as I had made some good friends here, and then it was for the jobs I've had - I had an inactive spat when Mr-Trainor had a fansite, but then that closed and I was removed from the DNHL and so I've been a volunteer on here ever since.

2. Why did you stay? Because I got accepted. :P

1. Why did you join HabboxForum? I joined during HxSS because I was around in some of the events and it looked fun and wanted to get involved. I'd also won a competition on the radio and wanted to become a DJ so I could take part in that way too.
2. Why did you stay? I like some of the events. I learned the navigate around the forum and made a few friends. I got the jobs that I wanted to and am now more than happy within both of them. It's the most decent fansite I've been to.

1. Why did you join HabboxForum? Because I met a friend who used to tune into hxl, I then got friendly with the DJs and started to love Habbox so I joined the forum.


2. Why did you stay? Because I met some really good friends that I'm still friends with today. I enjoy coming on and talking to them all, seeing how everyone is doing and what they're doing with their lives. I enjoyed a few of the roles at Habbox too although sometimes I did get bored but what kept me here was the people mainly. Still love most Habbox roles today.

1. Why did you join HabboxForum? it was during a huge event thing roxy did where it was a big room with teleports leading to events with a sticky note above each one with the time of event etc so i joined because they also had forum competitions on at the time

Was very much into playing Habbo bingo and ended up at a Habbox Bingo, whilst in there I was asking about how much something was worth and was directed to the habbox.com site for rare values! It looked pretty cool and then I saw the forum link on the site and decided to join up!

2. Why did you stay? Because everything was really Habbo-y and I could get gossip about the hotel from the news/rumours forum, see peoples rooms in the cool rooms bit and then became a moderator in 2009 and made some fantastic friends!

1. Why did you join HabboxForum? I joined Habbox Forum firstly to check out some content stuff etc for habbo in 2012 on an old account and then came off for abit, it then came back in June 2014 to Join the staff of HabboxLive and HabboxGraphics which is brilliant!

I don't know why I stayed. This is pretty much the only forum I use. I like it here, I like the people and I like helping others that maybe aren't as experienced as I am.

I used to tune in to DJ ALL4TECHNICS every single night and we used to have awesome radio parties in her Habbo room. I would always send in "funny" requests for her to read on air, as would her other listeners. When she got promoted to Assistant Radio Manager, she told me she would like to become a Radio DJ, and I said that I would love to. In order to be a DJ though, it was mandatory that you were a forum member, so I joined the forum so that they could set up my permissions as a DJ and so that I would have access to the DJing guides and all the stuff I needed to get started.

2. Why did you stay?
Meeting great friends at Habbox. Forming friendships. Having fun.

I don't much care to participate in super lengthy discussion threads. I'd rather have things light hearted and fun.
