'I did NOT say she smelled like weed!' Kelly Osbourne distances herself from Zendaya dreadlock scandal and threatens to quit Fashion Police

Kelly Osbourne says she played no part in the Zendaya scandal that has left her Fashion Police co-host Giuliana Rancic tarnished.

The 30-year-old branded the incident, which occurred on Monday during an Oscars special, as racist and has threatened to quit the E! show if direct action is not taken by the network to resolve the situation.

Furor erupted online after Rancic claimed 18-year-old Zendaya smelled of patchouli just because she has dreadlocks.

Distancing herself: Kelly Osbourne says she played no part in the Zendaya scandal that has left her Fashion Police co-host Giuliana Rancic tarnished, pictured on Sunday at the Academy Awards

The comments went further on the Academy Awards special when the show cut to a picture of the singer on the red carpet - a voice off camera could be heard saying that the Disney star smelled like 'weed'.

Many have claimed that the ignorant comment was not made by Rancic - who has been roundly slammed in the past 24 hours - but was in fact her co-host Kelly.

But on Tuesday the daughter of rock legend Ozzy Osbourne took to Twitter to defend herself.

'I DID NOT MAKE THE WEED COMENT (sic),' she wrote. 'I DO NOT CONDONE RACISM SO AS A RSULT OF THIS IM SEREIOULSY QUESTIONONIG STAYING ON THE SHOW!'

Adding: 'I WILL NOT BE DRAGED INTO THIS! The situation is being rectified like ADULTS by both parties. I hope you can leave it to them & do the same!'

'you guys do realize that @Zendaya is my friend right?'

'Im giving everyone involved 24 hours to make it right or the world will hear how I really feel,' Kelly continued in another tweet. 'contactually Im not allowed to speak!'

Meanwhile, Zendaya hit back at Rancic with a social media note of her own.

Offended: Zendaya, pictured at the Academy Awards on Sunday, lashed out at Giuliana Rancic on Monday following a 'disrespectful' comment about her hair

Police brutality: The moment Fashion Police star Giuliana said Zendaya looks like she 'smelled of weed' because of her dreadlocks on Monday night's show

'There is a fine line between what is funny and disrespectful,' she wrote. 'Someone said something about my hair at the Oscars that left me in awe. Not because I was relishing in rave outfit reviews, but because I was hit with ignorant slurs and pure disrespect.

'To say that an 18-year-old young woman with locs must smell of patchouli oil or 'weed' is not only a large stereotype but outrageously offensive. I don't usually feel the need to respond to negative things but certain remarks cannot go unchecked.'

The Disney star then listed a number of personal luminaries who wear dreadlocks, and included her father, brother, best friend and little cousins.

She claimed there was 'already harsh criticism of African American hair in society without the help of others who chose to judge people based on the curl of their hair.'

She demanded Rancic 'contemplate a little before opening your mouth so quickly to judge'.

'My wearing my hair in locs on an Oscar red carpet was to showcase them in a positive light, to remind people of color that our hair is good enough. To me locs are a symbol of strength and beauty, almost like a lion's mane,' She added.

Locked Luminaries: Zendaya wrote a lengthy list of respected people who have dreadlocks, none of whom 'smell of marijuana'

Zedaya's fans were quick to support her on Twitter, with some posting demands for apologies from E!, while other posted funny memes.

However the 40-year-old tv personality apologised, for offending her, but refuted claims what she had said was racist.

'Dear @Zendaya, I'm sorry I offended you and others,' she tweeted. 'I was referring to a bohemian chic look. Had NOTHING to do with race and NEVER would!!!'

Giuliana Rancic ripped the Academy on Monday's Fashion Police for leaving Joan Rivers off its In Memoriam segment, pulling out (both!) middle fingers and more.

Zendaya wasn't the only entity Giuliana had a go at - she also flipped the bird at the entire Academy for leaving Fashion Police Commissioner Joan Rivers out of the In Memoriam segment during Sunday's Oscars.

'Screw them anyway for leaving Joan out of the In Memoriam segment,' She said brandishing both middle fingers. 'So f**k you, Oscar.'

Rancic's sudden outburst came without warning as she was criticizing the Academy for the white photo backdrop it provided, which prevented Lupita Nyong'o's white gown from 'popping'. 'Let's all blame them. Let's blame them for everything,' she shouted.

Her fashion police co-hosts Kelly Osbourne, Brad Goreski - and the audience - cheered in agreement, while Kathy Griffin added it was a 'miss' for the Academy.

'She was in feature films and I thought that was an odd miss,' she added. 'It's almost like even posthumously, she's still a rebel.'

Can you believe this? The bit that stuck out to me was the bit where this Zendaya girl - who i've never heard of before - wrote that she was 'outrageously offended' by the tongue in cheek comment that her hair looked like it smelt of weed. Outrageously offended... by a comment about her hair. Let that sink in. Ontop of that, she even managed to write an A4 side of complete waffle about her hair giving her strength [...] something about a lion's mane... in other words, a complete load of steaming horse ****e.

Shame on Rancic for apologising because had that of been me I would of replied with something along the lines of grow you up stupid ***** on twitter. But the reason I posted this was: aren't you sick to the back teeth of people claiming offence with everything that is said? It's about time people started standing behind their comments and said to the mock outrage a big "so what?" and "grow up". Learn to live a little and not take yourself so seriously. Or your hair.

Thoughts?

I can see why she is offended and she's almost publicly insulted and stereotyped through the media from it, but it was also on tumblr EVERYWHERE and even though I agree with how much it's offensive and that, I don't like how some fans carry on

Zendaya looked really good in my opinion lol. I've never even heard of these two people but isn't this just typical Oscars drama. The bottom line is whoever said the comment, being Kelly or Giuliana Rancic , was in the wrong as it shouldn't have been said in the first place. Discrimination is discrimination and Zendaya has every right to be mad. It'll all blow over by this time next week, along with the whole Oscars hype. I heard the host didn't do a very good job either.

zendaya is a disney star

and ofc she was offended she said she looked like smelled of weed cos of her dreads. its a derogatory stereotype of a black style and core part of zendayas culture which made it rly racist. did u even read zendayas v intelligent response about y she was offended and hurt by it?

It's rather odd that you openly shun a comment by a former UKIP councillor about negroid features and excuse her by claiming that it's just something that "her generation" can't help doing, yet virtually in the same breath say that it's okay to make stereotypical comments about those exact negroid features and we should all do so unapologetically. She has every right to take offence.

I can't believe the hand wringing responses to this one.

That's an intelligent response? I'm sorry but saying you are outrageously offended over comments about your hair and that your hair is a lion's mane and all that other ****e she wrote in that letter isn't witty or clever: it's an A4 page of complete and utter nonsense. Worthy of a cheap PR writer.

You are aware how comedy works, right? It's all about stereotypes.

I said I wasn't excusing her. How many times did I say that in that thread.

And as for braids, whilst black people have them more commonly they aren't an exclusive black feature. And even if they were, so what it's a light hearted joke - just as disabled people have the mickey taken out of them being immobile, gay people concerning bum sex, Chinese people with noodles ETC.

All 'features' and stereotypes - although not exclusive - of each group which are regularly subjected to jokes.

interesting that u say that dreads aren't an exclusively black feature because kylie jenner wore them just the week before and guiliana described them as "edgy" and "cool" opposed to the smelly weed comment she made towards zendaya - RACIST

it's a JOKE.

She actually complimented how Zendaya looked prior to that.

Let's face it, a lot of these celebrities - especially the women - reckon they're little princesses or madames and are beyond having the piss taken out of them or what they are wearing. You only have to look at the reactions of some celebrities to jokes by FP or Joan Rivers in the past to see it. And the obsessive and slavish fans on twitter and social media then follow the lead and go into a tantrum that somebody doesn't worship somebody who is good at reading a script like they do. It's pathetic.

Zendaya the poor icckle victim who's probably worth a few million quid can't take a joke about her hair? Isn't she 18? It shows!

its not a harmless joke when its racist and based on stereotypes. its an even bigger deal in america where there is still a lot of black inequality. as she said she wore that hair on the red carpet to try and put black hair in a more positive light and she was met with a racist joke which says it all rly. the massive backlash and media uproar shows that this kind of behavior isnt acceptable and shouldnt go ignored!

yes because Zendaya is a world expert in the socio-economic conditions of demographic groups. please. she's a disney princess not Dr Thomas Sowell.

hahaha what! who comes up with this rubbish.

She wore her hair like that because she thought it looked good, it was the subject of a joke and little missy didn't like it. Boo hoo for her.
