I'm off to Tenerife sometime this year, and really want a tattoo. I only want a small one at the top of my arm (not decided what I want yet), and if there are any tattoo places which will do me one (i'm currently 15) then i'll probably get one. Any of you had a tattoo underage before (whether it be in your home country/abroad)?

It shall be an offence to tattoo a person under the age of eighteen except when the tattoo is performed for medical reasons by a duly qualified medical practioner or by a person working under his direction

What I can see online, Australia has age limit of 18 too but you can get at 16 with parental consent in some territories.

I wouldn't personally do it, especially in a foreign country. After what I've looked at online, in most of Spain you need to be 16 to get a tattoo and good artists will want ID from you. I strongly encourage you to not get one just yet and see if you still want a tattoo when you're 18 :P

It's kinda young to be permanently marking something onto your skin which you might regret as you mature haha.

Yurs Nicholas it is your body but it is a big step to permanently mark your skin when you're at such a young age :P

Though I always thought you could do 16 with parental permission in this country, I don't see why that isn't allowed.

I would definitely wait until you're 18. There is an age limit for a reason. If you feel the same about the tattoo in three years time then get it done but chances are you wont and will be thankful you didn't rush in and make a rash decision at age 15. Waiting three years in the grand scheme of things isn't very long considering it will be there permanently and even if you get it removed, you wont ever tan there so you will always have a reminder of that silly mistake you made at 15.

Not only like that, like the others have said, you don't know the reputation of these tattoo artists in foreign countries or how good they really are. You could end up with an infected or deformed tattoo. Wait the few years and research and find yourself a decent, reputable tattoo artist.

Honestly, you should wait until you're the age to get one legally. Unless you get permission from your parent/guardian stating that it's okay to get one. Because your taste in tattoos can change drastically depending on what you're into at that particular time. My uncle owns a Tattoo Shop and I've seen some pretty interesting tattoos people have wanted haha. Other than that, I love tattoos  I don't see any problem with getting them :Mini-Smile:

I wouldn't get it! But I'm not a massive fan of tattoos.
Get it if you really have this idea that means so much to you and you're in need of it but like what's been said, you might end up getting a gammy one so be careful.

Seeing as you only want a small one, just wait until you're 16 and get consent (if it's the same as over here). If you were trying to get a full sleeve or something then ofc you might not be able to get one, but something small should be alright. I know round here you need to be 16 and have parental consent or be over 18 to get one. I know there was a huge news thing about people up North who got illegal tattoos in some dudes shed and that the guy was prosecuted over it.

Tattoos are cool and if they're done by a professional with the right gear, then yeah go for it. The only problem with getting one when you're underage indicates the tattoo artist doesn't/might not care about the laws surrounding it and therefore I would question their equipment and how safe it would be.

OR just stop over in Bali on your way home and get one for like $50 (joke lol you'd get all sorts of diseases)

No I've not got any tattoos yet :)

I always think with tattoos: if you would've got one done 5 years ago, what would you have got?

Now think about what you were into 5 years ago and whether you are now. Most of us change tastes in a very short period of time.

I'm with Dan on this - in 10 years time you may not be the same person as you are now. People change and their interests change.

Then again it depends on the tattoo. If it's something you've always wanted then sure but I would wait until you are old enough. My girlfriend had a tattoo when she was 18. She doesn't regret it but she wished she didn't have it done. Then again she had one done about two years ago and loves it.

If an artist is willing to tattoo someone underage then chances are their work is crap. Wait until your of age and then pay more to get a good one

As loads of people have said, anywhere you will be able to get one done will be dodgy. Do you really want to come home and have to face the consequences of infection? I've got a friend who got a tattoo done when she was 15 (along with her friend who got her lip pierced at the same time) and they got it done in the back of a van. Both of them had horrible infections and it was just UGH.

A less important issue is that you won't want to get it done. You're still growing up and still very impressionable at 15. Even if you don't think they are, your tastes will be changing ALL the time. Anything you get done will either be embarrassing or just average in as little as 2 years time. Don't do it yet!

I'd wait if i were you pal. You'll probs do the complete opposite but what's a few years? You might despise tattoos by then :P. If i was to ever get a tattoo it would be for a good reason, a family member passing away etc, have something on my skin that obviously I'm not going to hate in years to come as it's sentimental.

I got my first at 16, 2nd at 17 and 3rd at 18. The only one at a proper studio was the one I got done at 18. The other 2 were by my uncle and personally I hate the one I got done at 16 because my body has changed since then and my thigh stretched so personally I'd wait if I were you
