EUROVISION 2015
It's that time of year again (wow feels like yesterday we had that party in @Yuxin;'s room)
Final is 23rd May (Semi-Finals on 19th and 21st May)
The majority of countries have released their songs now and you can find them here:
Semi Final 1 Countries and Songs (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Eurovision_Song_Contest_2015#Semi-final_1)
Semi Final 2 Countries and Songs (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Eurovision_Song_Contest_2015#Semi-final_2)

Some interesting Eurovision news so far:
Australia to take part for the 60th Anniversary!
Yes, you read that right! After a prominent place in the interval act of last years Eurovision Song Contest, Australia will compete in the 2015 Eurovision Song Contest, to take place on 19, 21 and 23rd of May in Vienna, Austria. Just for once, and for many good reasons! Find out more here (http://www.eurovision.tv/page/news?id=australia_to_participate_in_the_2015_eurov ision_song_contest)
Things to note:
This is a one-off, for the 60th Anniversary
They go straight to the final
Being represented by Guy Sebastian, Australian Idol winner, X Factor Australia judge and has hit song 'Like A Drum'
If they do win, they can compete the next year BUT they must co-host the event in a European country and not Australia
Germany's Eurovision winner, Andreas Kummert, drops out on live TV
The winner of the search to find Germany's Eurovision Song Contest entrant turned down the chance to represent his country on live TV.
Andreas Kummert initially thanked the public for selecting his song Heart of Stone as Germany's entry.
But, shortly afterwards, he took the microphone from presenter Barbara Schoneberger and said: "I'm really not in the right shape to accept this."
Instead, he said, "I give my title to Ann Sophie", the 24-year-old runner-up.
Ann Sophie looked visibly confused by the turn of events; while many in the studio audience booed.
The UK Eurovision entry is revealed TOMORROW (7th March) on the BBC Red button after The Voice

Great song indeed. It's really catchy and retro-I ... but for it to wn as a song in it's own right will NEVER happen until the format is changed and political voting ends!!
Semi Final 1 Countries and Songs (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Eurovision_Song_Contest_2015#Semi-final_1)
Great song ... really catchy, really retro ... but if anybody thinks a song a song (from any Country) can win Eurovision on merit ... I have a surprise for you - it will never happen until the format and voting in-particular is radically changed!

jesus christ. not sure you're all hearing but with fj on this, truly truly awful. like someone saw clean bandit and that will.i.am song doing well and thought you could remix any crap 1930s tripe, doesn't help they mixed it with the cheapest sounding beat imaginable. this all before hearing that atrocious scat part. makes gemini sound like abba.
Guy Sebastian is a good person to put forward for Australia! I hope he sings a song just as good as Battle Scars. We might actually have a chance :)

That's exactly what I'm hoping. I really want to attend a Eurovision Final, but the UK will never win it - especially this year, the song is absolutely awful. Probably the worst since Teenage Life or that Andy guy that lost the X Factor.

What on earth made you think that? The title? :O
Yeah, she means the eurovision spam thread, which is a tradition each year for those in spam (and is normally really busy on the night, and allows for more relaxed talk, rather than everything having to be 'on topic'. (although it could be argued that much of the forum is full of spam these days).

Knowing mods these days the spam thread will be moved to entertainment to 'encourage posting' and then you'll get it closed/merged for it being a duplicate thread.

It's not all about post count omg, posting in spam is posting too and actually helps in the long run because it allows far more free conversation and gets the community interacting and stuff

It seemed fair. The countries that are automatically in the final were in the right place, too.
The UK, Germany and France do not get as much publicity as the ones that go through the semi-final process so people pay little attention to them as they haven't worked hard or made themselves be heard.
The UK's entry was mostly heard through their music video so expectations were higher but the real outcome, being played live, so it was a let down. Not forgetting we do not put on a show, look uncomfortable and use a song no one has heard while other countries just release them as normal (Sweden, Belgium and a few others usually do).
Austria coming last was quite impressive - a host not receiving a single point is a shock.
People also vote tactically (not politically or via favouritism). Latvia received a few too many 12 points which just seemed dodgy. Russia, although getting boo'd, receive the number it did because people probably want to prove it isn't political.
Lots of reasons which should be obvious but Graham Norton and others feel they should repeat them each year.

Latvias and Russia's songs were good and deserved the votes. I wouldn't say it was tactical/political. I been bopping to Russia's all day.
FlyingJesus
24-05-2015, 03:38 PM
If anything I'd say Russia's almost success is proof that the whole idea that every vote is political doesn't hold up. What is interesting about potential political voting is seeing how many jury panels voted Armenia and Albania dead last while the televoters proved quite fond of them. I really hate the juror voting scheme :P
Also it's really time that the BBC made a proper effort in terms of finding a suitable act. Even when we've had voting and such it's been farcical and eventually the entire thing including the song and show setting have been completely chosen by the execs, and these are people who quite clearly view Eurovision as just a camp joke rather than a genuine contest and showcase of talent. We don't necessarily need to recruit anyone with past fame (tried that with Blue, Bonnie, and Engelbert and look how well that went) but the actual songwriting aspect of it should be the focus - and that's something that a lot of people are talented at around the country, as opposed to the BBC bosses who are so obviously not :P
