nowadays there are alot of people saying tht our education system is ****** up, etc that we're learning nothing useful blah blah like yeah at least i can find the area of a triangle
what would you rather schools teach instead?
i actually want to pick up like technical skills ie coding and working with computers, would be of some use since we're living in a day and age revolving around technology. ik there are like courses for this in uni or sth but i think having at least a simple foundation would be good for us :P

I'd rather schools taught about nutrition, not from a science perspective but in a way that enables students to understand what they need to eat to stay fit and healthy and WHY. I also think P.E. lessons should be similar to a typical session at the gym and include yoga, pilates and boxing.
I know a few people who were top of their classes at school but struggled when they left because school doesn't prepare kids for life afterwards. In the same way some people describe themselves as 'streetwise', I think schools should focus on making kids 'lifewise'.
Critical thinking and lifeskills that translate properly: nutrition as mentioned, basic personal finance, etc.

looks like they need to improve on their English teaching
Absently

lifeskills would definitely be something so useful
also, where i come from they don't do subjects like psychology, IT, etc and it'd be so handy if they had because a lot of the time i feel like i'm at a disadvantage in uni because they just go "oh you would have learnt this in psychology in school so i won't dwell too much". but i'm like WHAT no please focus a bit more so i can get a better understanding, so i'll be sat there clueless for rest of lecture :( hopefully once i get into 2nd year it'll stop

Lifeskills is definitely something that needs to be taught. Some of my friends are really smart when it comes to subjects in school, but simple tasks outside of school they struggle with. One of my friends didn't even know how to make themselves a cup of tea
I also think that basic coding and programming should be given as a option, especially as there are so many IT based jobs available.

I really really wish schools would teach the constitutional system of the United Kingdom which would include a strong emphasis of the importance of English liberties, common law, the sovereignty of parliament and so on. If you had an educated populace on what their ancient rights were, then people would be a lot more weary of an all powerful state and you'd have less dodgy laws being passed such as 90 days detention without trial, internet snooping without any charges and so on and so forth. In other words, a clued up population can't then be fooled into surrendering forever their birthrights and that of generations after them.
Americans are taught the value of their constitution: we should be taught the value of the Magna Carta, Bill of Rights, Acts of Settlement, Acts of Union etc.
Lifeskills seriously needs to be taught. Things like paying a bill etc. I had no idea on any of that until I moved out in September and I'm 21!

I wish schools taught about real life in PSHE and lessons like that. People should be more prepared for the real world or a world at university. It's so much different than how you envision it.

A lot of people keep commenting on here that schools should teach 'life skills'........ the clue is in the name. Life skills can't be 'taught' in a classroom.

Obviously you can't teach things like that. Young kids these days seem to have next to no common sense, if you can give them some information about ''life'' and its repercussions then at it will be giving them some kind of a head start. Most kids don't even realise that you have to pay for a TV licence and many other things like that which people are oblivious to can be 'taught'.
I'd definitely agree with wanting to see schools teaching you life skills.
How a mortgage works, how to sort out superannuation, how to manage money, how to manage your work load with life in general, how to write a CV/Resume, all of those kinds of things.

For my school I really hope they introduce Film/TV studies to our curriculum, followed by Drama (I was kind of upset they didn't have this class in this school, ngl).

Not sure if this is exactly what you're asking but I wish, when I was in school, they would have taught two things. One being the purpose of things you do, why do I need to know trig identities, what are scientific theories used for etc. A lot of people used to complain about this and it would be nice to know exactly what I was being taught could be used for beyond the obvious. Secondly, and this may not really answer the question, but I'd have liked to have seen a branch out from the given curriculum. There's so much focus on exams and assessments it pretty much killed any interest I had in some subjects since every other lesson was some kind of test. I guess these two kind of link in the sense that, if you show people what is beyond the exam they may well pay more interest and just do better in general.

Just so you know, schools actually are starting to do these 'life skills' lessons these days - they just didn't have them back in our day.
Inseriousity.

yeah they did, I learnt all that sort of stuff in PSHE... well til the teacher got bored and we just watched Friends for the rest of the term lol.
It's stupid that people think schools need to teach everything like that anyway. Some lessons it shouldn't be a school's job to teach. There are parents + life experience.
I've always wanted to learn first aid and sign language but never got round to it (although again I don't think a school curriculum can fit everything in).
