Do you make small talk, are you any good at it with strangers?

I often initiate it when I am at tills or with people at bus stops. Especially with taxi drivers too. I know a lot of people hate it but I always think it brightens up somebody's day if you talk to them as for all you know they could, after work, return home and just be on their own alone.

What about you?

I've become a lot better at small talk through work and dealing with drunken people who just want to talk utter rubbish to you. So yeah, I do find myself talking to the woman at the ticket barrier at the train station or the till lady at the super market. I agree, its nice to talk to them and also you get better service as they tend to remember you if you talk to them regularly.

It depends, usually if i'm in a confident mindset I will. Other than that I keep to myself.

I don't like people.

People don't like you.

I really do hate it. I'm actually such a shy person in person when I don't know somebody. I'll try to avoid talking as much as possible when I don't know someone

I'm good at it but I don't think I push it enough

like sometimes if a mutual friend leaves a room and it's me and someone I don't know very well or a colleague etc more than often I won't initiate anything, just don't feel the need

but if I want to I have no problem with it, taxi drivers I dont mind at all and I'll happily chat

Always depends on the mood I'm in. I can be quite bad for small talk as I really don't like it but I still do it out of force of habit really.

I'm terrible at starting any form of small talk, but I can be OK at continuing so long as it's not about a dead end topic like the weather.

Usually if I'm in public I sometimes make small talk with people, I guess since I've moved around so much it's easy to talk to strangers and meet new people.

I literally hate small talk, feels so awkward - its usually like a precusor to asking for something, why not get to it? If someone starts it with me though I will reply but proper replies rather than "yeah im ok wbu, wubu2, nothing much" etc.

Being introduced to someone I don't know IRL and small talk is literally the worst social situation I can imagine...

I'm not bad at small talk but working in hospitality it's kinda something you need to be good at.

I hate small talk, but you have to be good at it in my job so my communication skills have improved an awful lot since I started. Outside of work I tend to just get straight to the point though lmao

No I'm not very good at small talk unless they start talking to me then I'm fine.

Inseriousity.

This lol. let's just skip the "how are you" and "what you been up to" (especially cos the answers are usually 'fine' and 'not a lot just wasting my life atm') and get to the discussion. Even worse though is when you start small talk and someone gives you their life story.

Not a fan of it really.
