Ten schoolchildren have been taken to hospital after the top deck of their bus was ripped off when it hit a railway bridge.
The double-decker had been carrying 76 pupils on an end-of-term theme park trip when it reportedly took a wrong turn in Staines, Surrey.

It had been due to take the children to Thorpe Park in Chertsey, Surrey, when it crashed about two miles away.

None of the children on board the bus were seriously injured.

However, the bus company said one child suffered neck injuries and eight were being treated for shock.

How unfortunate. Its crazy how often double decker drivers don't think properly when they go under a bridge.

I'm sure I've seen this happen a few times, you'd think the driver would know the heights etc. At least it looks like they're all ok.

that road looks like a 20/30 zone so surely the time you hit the roof, you'd emergency break not just casually drive and stop 50 ft after the bridge? :S

It's time this country started updating some of our infrastructure especially bridges. We're still using Victorian ones (which thank god they built them because how would we cope otherwise) yet they're too small for the job at hand. Divert the foreign aid budget to schemes like widening bridges etc. It has been 100+ years.

Luckily the kids weren't going under a bridge that was even lower.
