View Full Version : Is going to the beach a normal or an unusual thing for you?

I had never thought of it but for some people going to the beach/the seaside is an unusual and rare thing as they live inland. In Britain of course this isn't a huge issue for most as we're a narrow island surrounded by water, although it still is the case for some. For Americans and others though, a lot of people never see the ocean or ever feel a beach which is really strange.

I live in Liverpool so as we're on the coast going to the beach is pretty normal for me.

How about you?

I live in the NY, NJ, CN tri-state area where beaches are somewhat common, but aside from vacation? Yeah, unusual for a daily basis.

I never go to the beach to be honest, can't stand the sand.

I don't think I've been to the beach in the summer in the UK for a few years, although I often go to the beach in the winter for some bizarre reason.

I live like 2cm from a beach so, it's normal.

We used to go to felixtowe beach every weekend and my friend john's family owned a few shops on the seafront so we would get free fish and chips and icecream after a long 1 hour day of walking around the market looking at what second hand or bulk-bought tat people were peddling. As I grew older I lost interest in going to the beach with my family and tended to get on the train with my friends instead and hide in the toilet so we didn't have to pay the fare. I don't go to the beach since I moved away from the coast, Liverpool is probably closest coastal place to me and I wouldn't go there cos it's full of grimy bin dippers.

I attempt to be at the beach once a week.. if not twice a month.. It takes about 45 minutes to the closest beach... so it has to be worth it.

Since I live about 5 minutes from the beach I do go spend an hour or so twice a week during summer depending on the weather obviously. To be honest I am not a beach person who would spend more than 1 hour there.

I hate beaches. When I was younger I tried to run into the sea and burnt my feet on the sand so I think that's put me off them. :)

Unusual, I'm one of the places in the UK that's as far from a beach as possible. Plus I think our nearest coastline is Skegness and nobody would ever choose to go there to visit the beach.

Being from cornwall yes. In fact I went last night.

I live 80 miles from the nearest coast. We might go once a year but I don't really enjoy it as my mother just likes to walk along the sand and then go home which I find boring.

Unusual. I live 10 minutes away from a beach, but I don't like going. I don't like Sand :(
It's alright to go there for a walk, though. It's where I tend to go if I want to take a walk, but the weather sucks most of the time around here so it's a rare thing to be able to go.

Pretty common.

I don't even like the beach that much, the sun just sucks.

Normal. I walk down to the beach at least once a week, as I live in a seaside town.

I guess it's pretty normal from where I live, the City Centre is right on the beach front.

I wish I could go to the beach more, I go on holiday to Ingoldmells/Skegness every year and always go on the beach at least once whilst I am there.

I've always gone to the beach pretty much at least once a week with a few years exception :P Living in Cornwall the beach was like 15 minutes away so we went there a lot, living in York the beach was about an hour away so we'd only really go a few times in the summer. Living in Ireland the closest beach was about 10 minutes away and I worked there also so it was very easy to get to the beach. Living in Bournemouth we are about 5 minutes away from the beach so normally take the dogs at least once a week.

I'm patriotic but even I can't defend shingle or pebble beaches. :P
