View Full Version : Stealing from work

This thread was brought on by a dream I had last night where I stole a pack of sugar free gum from my work and got detained in a (nonexistent in real life) cell in the back of the shop and everything just got out of hand x
So. Would you ever steal from work? Anything from items off the shelves if you work in retail to pens.
I've never stolen from work but sometimes when I'm out the front of the shop on my own I have random thoughts of just "omg I could slip that gaviscon in my pocket right now and no one would even know I took it". It's completely irrational especially as I don't even need the item, it's just because I've got it in my hand and no one is looking.
A couple of my friends, on the other hand, steal all sorts of things from pens to packets of biscuits (corner shop workers) to lipstick (drugstore workers). They're totally open about it with me and I find that horrifying, but they all take the attitude that they don't get paid enough (between £6 and £8 an hour) so they have a right to take "the odd thing" because they're just justifying their low pay??
You can't ever justify stealing, even if you are on a low salary. Someone has bought and paid for their stock and worked hard for it, and you're just stealing their profits. If you want to steal something so bad, you're low and should try aspire to own your own business if you want it all. If they put themselves in the owners shoes, and they had their own business, would they mind if someone took the 'odd thing' from them then?! I can guarantee the answer would be no :P

I think you mean the answer would actually be yes, they would mind if someone took the 'odd thing' from them ;)
But no, I see your point and agree with you. Although actually I don't steal from work because I know I'd be sweating and shaking for the rest of the shift for fear of being caught and fired.

Yeah. Stuff that's getting thrown out which we were not allowed to keep oh and if my till was 'up' from accidentally overcharging customers then you can bet that went towards something from the vending machine.

I'd never steal from work, my shop is cheap enough to buy stuff in and if anyone did ever steal they'd be out pretty quickly.

I used to get the urge to steal £2 coins from the till because they're pretty, but I've never done it.

I've never stole anything as such however from the soft drink pimps in the bar in will help myself to that. It costs about 5p for half a pint of coke so I take that and I also take the odd packet of crisps thay we buy for 15p and sell for £1. Apart from that I would never steal anything or even consider it.

Having a free drink from a bar you work in (I'm guessing that's what you mean) is alright, perks of the job :p. Just remembered when my gf used to work in a pub I'd go in after work and get a free pint :D
I wouldn't steal at my current job as there's already someone that's been stealing and I know that my boss has put hidden CCTV in to try catch her. Depends what it is and the type of job tbh. Most likely i'd say no as I'm a good boy and work hard for my things.

yeah **** loads of times
when i worked in burger king (lol i was 16) we were only allowed fizzy drinks or tap water but i used to steal an orange juice or some crap when the manager wasnt looking and also i used to go over my food allowance for that shift/day so i guess i stole a few extra slices of cheese etc.
i worked in some call center which was proper crap and they had that adaptor thingy so your headphones and mic plugged into the same USB port and i needed one for home. they had 100's of the things so i took one.
when i done bar work i used to always steal like the ketchup and brown sauce sachets so i didnt have to buy any at the shop and also when i finished work i used to always pour myself a pint, even if it wasn't paid for. i just seen it as, 'i've made them a good few hundred quid today, one pint for free is fine'. they were a massive chain company so 1 pint is sod all.
probs been more little petty things like that but can't think off the top of my head.

considering ive never had a job before (although i start one on monday, woo), I've never stolen anything from work. The only thing ive really "stolen" is them pens from argos that literally everyone has taken at least one of.
