UKIP has rejected Nigel Farage's resignation and he remains the party leader, the party has said.
The party chairman said they would not accept Mr Farage's post-election resignation because the party's "election campaign had been a great success".
The party's National Executive Committee said the party had "fought a positive campaign with a very good manifesto" and "despite negative attacks" had managed to secure four million votes, which is said was an "extraordinary achievement".
Mr Farage, who announced he would step down as promised after failing to win the seat of South Thanet, has now withdrawn his resignation and will continue to lead the party.
In a statement Steve Crowther, the party chairman, said: "As promised Nigel Farage tendered his official resignation as leader of UKIP to the NEC.
"This offer was unanimously rejected by the NEC members who produced overwhelmingly evidence that the UKIP membership did not want Nigel to go."
Although I'm not a UKIP supporter, I do like Nigel as the party's leader and it's nice to see him stay. I didn't expect him to return so soon though!

Wonder if he will resign if the UK rejects leaving the EU in 2 years then. I mean, if we do stay in the EU, what is the point of UKIP?
Well, I shouldn't say that actually, look at the SNP now. Maybe UKIP will be better off if we do decide to stay in the EU.

So he's going to get around breaking his promises by saying "well I TRIEDDDDDDDDDD". They can't force him to stay in the job lol

It did seem weird he stepped down, when UKIP received quite a large number of the votes despite only winning one MP. If PR was around UKIP would have taken over most of the South East.

Worse than Paddy Ashdown.
In all seriousness though, UKIP probably wouldn't continue without him at the helm and it is nice to see a genuinely different political party as, if nothing else, it encourages a bit of debate.

Surely nige wouldn't go back on his word?

Absolutely typical. The man who claims to hate how the 'establishment' always goes back on its promises, and doesn't commit to anything has done exactly that.
Showing his true colours.

i don't think saying you'll resign as party leader and coming back means you're going to go back on your policy promises lol
but laughing, "resignation rejected", do his other members not want to be a leader or is it cause they know Farage is the only one who can carry it?

So much pride that he doesn't go against his word (like other politicians). The man is ridiculous.

i don't think it's the worst thing a politician can do and it's not worth getting bothered about since it's unlikely he's going to amount to anything in parliament

Oh, I'm not bothered about it - their big chance was this election :P
I am just pointing out that he has shown himself up for exactly what he is; part of the establishment (that he hates so much).

what do u think happens now? continue the way they were and yet again amount to nothing, put in more effort to actually be a party rather than focusing mostly on immigration and EU or fade into the background like BNP?
plus why won't Jim Murphy resign no one likes him

They'll probably go more socialist all of a sudden because that way they can mop up some extra votes in what is clearly a desperate bid for power rather than a genuine wish or willingness to do right by the country

I'm sorry but how do you 'reject' a resignation?
If I resigned from my job irl and my boss said "no thanks I reject that proposal".. that...wouldn't work.
Anyway, not that surprised.

Because Farage doesn't really want to leave.

Think of it like a Board of Directors. Farage wants to resign as a Director or CEO but remain a member of the company. The other Directors decline his resignation and want him to continue as the CEO to appease the shareholders.
That's the worst analogy ever but it will do for now.

That does make a lot more sense, but the party really should have just said "Nigel Farage is not stepping down anymore" and not beat around the bush :P

You're right that was a bad analogy :P could have lit just used the real situation (he "wanted" to resign as leader but stay on in the party) but yeah it's all a bit of a farce really

He done the right thing any leader would do with a disaster of number of seats won, but they rejected his resignation because he done an amazing job bringing UKIP to become the third biggest party in united kingdom.
well done UKIP

I thought that too, but he has agreed to stay... you can't 'reject' a resignation completely.
