I just wanted to say I reckon some new users are not keeping so active because when you first make a new account they have to wait over an hour or two for there posts to appear, maybe limit this to 3 posts or something to keep away spammers, I'm not sure how all that works but I know it was annoying me when I first re-signed up.

that would certainly put me off posting as well

I thought we'd got rid of that ages ago, do we even get that many attempted spambots and could they not be stopped with a captcha type thing for first posts instead

Inseriousity.

I brought this up before and assumed it'd been changed. It definitely should be removed or changed to something that doesn't require new users to wait so long.

I think a captcha type system for the first few posts would be better if there's such thing available. I know from experience that it can take a while for posts to be approved sometimes and this system really puts new users off sticking around the forum since quite often they want replies straight away and will often even forget to come back to check. It would definitely put me off joining a forum.

when we were hosting shipwrecked certain users couldn't take part in the first few task because they'd made the account specifically to take part and couldn't post, so yes I'd agree with changing it to something better. loads used to ask me on habbo why their posts weren't appearing and by the time their posts had been approved they never noticed because it had been so long.

Hey guys,

Obviously this is in place to stop spambots from posting all over the forum and there hasn't been any in quite a while so I do think the current system is effective in that situation, however, I do agree with you all.

At the moment I believe it is only 1 post that needs to be approved which I think is fine. The problem is when the user posts multiple times before their first post is approved because then every single one needs to be done rather than just the first. I would much much prefer a captcha on the first few posts if this were possible? Chippiewill;

So you are going to change it so you have to fill in a captcha :D that would be fantastic for the new users!

I really like the idea of adding the captcha which is still helpful and stops bots at the same time so I do hope this will be done :)

It's possible.

Update: It's enabled but each forum will need to be checked for the usergroup permissions on each forum has:

Follow Forum Moderation Rules
If no, posts are always placed into moderation queue

Will need to be set to "Yes" rather than "No". If you want them to see the captcha instead of waiting for moderation approval. I would do it right now but I'm in work and don't have a lot of time at the minute. Might do it later if it hasn't been done.

Personally I'm not a fan of switching to captcha's as they can be automated just as much as the registration captcha, we may as well just disable it altogether - it also does nothing against people who manually post spam/advertising.

People probably don't remember but spam-posts at around 2am-6am used to be really prolific and this is why post approving was enabled to begin with.

Yes remove it.

I am sure when I signed up we had spammers, but hey that is what we had moderators for.

It'll give them something to do seeing as we are all so well behaved now (a)

Considering you are making automated scripts to make the mods have less manual work - This only then increases it again for them with potential spambots. Which is good for the mod department.

If automation is getting introduced, what's the point in having what seems to be (sorry if I'm wrong, but application have been open loads recently) an expanding department? Surely with the introduction of some moderation automation (heh, rhymes), there won't be the need for multiple moderators moderating the same forum category? Even maybe have some of the less active forums (Habbo, Entertainment, etc...) having no moderation team and leaving it to what Chip is coding?

Just because you don't want to be made redundant!

The only thing that has been done was a script that lists users with an oversized avatar. Nothing else is automated.

Okay Rhyss, you caught me....

Chippiewill is building an army of robots to automatically edits users threads for rulebreaks and send them PM's. Along with this they will also report anything that would normally be reported to SMOD's and Admins to the superior robots who will deal with them and annihilate users when necessary. They're going to take over Habbox and make it a Wall-E fansite.

We have anticipated this and we don't see it as a threat because they'll probably have more cop on.

Just because you think they're useless doesn't mean everyone does; at least they're used somewhat!

I don't mind a captcha, but I honestly don't mind banning spam bots and moving posts out - I don't think we've had any in a while anyway.

Yeah tis a good idea for a captcha or the game captcha cause moving spam bot posts was a pain tbh and whilst i was manager, moderators forgot to approve posts n crap every now and again

We don't really get many spambots as it is. A majority of the time they are dealt with quickly and the moderated post system works very well for that (as they legit only post like 1 post and then leave). Introduce a Captcha system and see what happens.

I incorporated it into my forum's registration and I have virtually 0 spam.. and that's a free myBB forum..free plugin..

If that is one provided by Google then we do currently use that.

Most of the spam that habbox gets isn't from automated bots, its from people manually posting it. We actually stopped using reCAPTCHA until google updated it for a while as the old one was actually a pretty bad captcha.

So it's more of identifying and stopping the potential spammers before they get the chance to post?
