sorry if there is already a thread and if not WHY NOT

Author J.K. Rowling recently made a thrilling announcement, tweeting, "I'm also very excited to confirm today that a new play called Harry Potter and the Cursed Child will be opening in London next year. It will tell a new story, which is the result of a collaboration between writer Jack Thorne, director John Tiffany and myself."

Thorne is probably best known for contributing to the TV series Shameless and for his big screen adaptation of Nick Hornby's novel, A Long Way Down. The Tony Award-winning Tiffany has achieved huge success in the theater, directing productions of ONCE and Black Watch. Producing Cursed Child is Sonia Friedman (Wolf Hall).

Although Rowling didn't want to spoil the treat for fans by giving out too much information, she did say that the work is not a prequel, that audiences will understand why it wasn't published as a novel and that a live theater production "is the only proper medium for the story."

Not surprisingly, Rowling has had numerous offers to extend the Harry Potter saga, which she acknowleged in her statement. So why did she decide to move forward with this particular project? The team behind the production appears to have been a key factor. Rowling highly praised the trio, saying: "Jack, John and Sonia Friedman are a dream team! It has been a huge pleasure to share with them (and soon, with you!) this untold part of Harry's story."

Although the plot is mostly being kept under wraps, rumors suggest that it will tell the back story leading to the untimely death of Harry's parents.

The play will have its world premiere at London's Palace Theatre in the summer of 2016. Tickets will be available this fall.

I'm feeling a bit meh about this. It's supposed to be about Lily and James which sounds interesting considering we didn't get to see much of their story but it'll all depend on the details. I do love Pottermore for all the backstories of the characters though. McGonagall's was so sad but explained so much about her.
