Mixed message: One Direction have denied being two-faced after throwing their weight behind climate change campaign action/1D despite previously admitting they often use two private jets to travel the globe

One Direction have denied being two-faced after throwing their weight behind a climate change campaign despite previously admitting they often use two private jets to travel the globe. The group, who last last year were revealed to be the richest boyband in British music history with a combined wealth of £70million, have joined Save the Children in launching action/1D. In a statement they said: 'Young people really do have the power to help end poverty, tackle inequality and stop dangerous climate change.' It comes after the band racked up around 200,000 miles while travelling the world on their past two tours.

Carbon-burning: Last May, after performing at Radio 1's Big Weekend, Harry Styles and Niall Horan, both 21, boarded one plane, while Liam Payne, 21, Zayn Malik, 22, and Louis Tomlinson, 23, all boarded another

Last May, after performing at Radio 1's Big Weekend, Harry Styles and Niall Horan, both 21, boarded one plane along with members of their security and styling team, while Liam Payne, 21, Zayn Malik, 22, and Louis Tomlinson, 23, all boarded another. A spokesman for the band told MailOnline at the time: 'The band often take two planes and it just depends who gets on what plane.'

When approached by the Daily Mirror (http://www.mirror.co.uk/3am/celebrity-news/one-direction-back-climate-change-6030333) about whether One Direction's carbon-burning mode of transport was at odds with the campaign, Save the Children said: 'None of us are perfect.' The charity's Brendan Cox added: 'One Direction is the biggest band in the world and by mobilising the millions of young people in their fanbase, they'll shine a light on the most important issues of our time.' A spokesman for One Direction claimed the band's flights were 'part of a carbon offset programme'. He said the band used Starflight jets, a company which works alongside the charity Cool Earth to try and offset carbon emissions by protecting the rainforests.

Anything for a bit of cash in their back pockets, like they need it.

As much as they are hypocrites, they have a large fan-base.

There's going to be a lot of people who think 'oh, they support this so I need to' and start acting on it.

So while there are a few of them who are claiming to support causes and don't, they are bringing more people forward to do so.

Like they know anything about the world. They left education to become singers. This is just another way to sell themselves. Even if it was true, noble and from the heart, they're a lousy example of eco-warriors.
