View Full Version : Apple Pay UK Launch!
Apple pay is now here! I did notice the Apple pay sign outside McDonald's drive thru the other day haha.
You can access it via the 'wallet ' app, but at the moment is only limited to a few cards.

Added my Santander account without any problems. My Natwest needs verification which the only option for me by calling them up. But maybe because they don't have my mobile I can't do the text verification like I did for my other card. Will try that one again later.
I don't think it's out in Australia yet. Looks pretty cool though, I want it.

I have edited the title as it is slightly misleading to people who don't live in the UK. As it's the UK launch for Apple Pay :P

haha, I actually hadn't heard of Apple Pay before so I had to google it, which is when I realised it's not here yet. Google made it look like Apple is having trouble convincing Australian authorities to allow it or something, due to security concerns and regulations? Didn't read fully into it though. The UK can test it out for us ;)

Do you have contactless payments at all? Like with just your bank cards yet or are you still stuck in the dark ages?

We have tap and go or paywave, yeah. They were reluctant to even bring that in but we've had it for a little while now.

Ah, I think the UK is like one of the leading countries for in Europe and a lot of people love it and have started to use it.

Mehh. I'm not that overly excited about it even though it is another good technological step forward.
As someone who has used a contactless card for many years and who doesn't get the hype over Apple, it's not hard to understand why I'm not thrilled :p
Oh and a shame if you're with HSBC : http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/business-33519365
I've actually seen this logo around a few places - I thought it'd been out since last week! Hopefully I'll get to try this quite soon.

Hope that's a joke because how does that work? They will have to run away with your finger print to be able to use Apple Pay. Limit of £20 and 5 transactions a day I think with contactless payments?
If you do ever lose your phone then can remote wipe your iOS devices and cancel your cards via your banks 24/7 service.

Didn't realise it was a fingerprint thing, that saves absolutely zero time then and is more hassle than a normal contactless payment. Of course pop an Apple logo on it and some people will buy into anything but 4real a more useful invention would just be a card holder on the back of your phone

No it's not adding any extra time at all - It's very quick and it was actually quicker accepting my payment this afternoon than my normal contactless card. Plus, if you have multiple cards then it's great. Also a bonus if you have added other items to your wallet such as Subway card, Starbucks card and anything else it accepts (including airline boarding passes)
(When I say wallet, I mean the app called wallet on the iOS devices not an actal physical wallet)
Another bonus is, they have made it so you can use it within inside apps on your phone. Want to buy something while on the move but don't want to faff about entering your bank account details? Bam, Apple Pay solves that.
While, yes it is Apple and everyone loves to hype over Apple but it is very handy and useful. Google/Samsung have their own versions anyway.
Not to mention it's more secure. Contactless cards you just scan, with NFC you have to use your fingerprint to activate it.

My bank card isn't contactless, but with Apple Pay that wouldn't matter. I still have a 5s though so can't use it anyway, but I'm glad to see its finally come to the UK :P.
My card is contactless so I'm probably never going to use it but it's a good idea
