I had a plate/retainer. It straightened my teeth and also moved my jaw completely. It changed the entire shape of my face.

got them off a couple weeks ago but now have some wire retainer i have to wear all the time for a few months then after its like 12hr a day

I always wanted braces and I loved how they looked because I still have these two white patches on my front teeth (I've talked about them before - fluorosis) which braces covered up. But if I measured up aesthetic against pain I wouldn't have them again :(

But my teeth are much straighter now! And I have a permanent fixed retainer behind my teeth on the bottom jaw and a removable one for nights for my top teeth.

i remember assuming that my teeth were really bent and messed up so i use to want them
but then when i spoke to my dentist about it they said i never needed them so i jsut went off the idea
