I've now read a couple of books on learning PHP and they sort of don't help me complete what I want to do.

I'm not saying they don't give me the code I need to just copy because that's not what I'm asking or looking for.

I basically want to create a staff panel which has permissions and different sections of the site. Then it's mostly input forms and displaying the information in the database.

Kind of like events - book a slot, show timetable. If you want an example you can imagine.

It's really difficult to know which parts I need from books and the examples they give just confuse me, like creating a chess board? My head just doesn't work like that.

Anyone have any suggestions as I've spent about £40 on books which are useful to some extent but not really...

codecademy is probably the best seeing as it is free as well
