Now.. This is really random and really weird however.
We have alot of 'foreign' people at work. Polish, russian, slovakian, ukrain etc
Now my question to you is..
Could you date someone who doesn't speak perfect english but is trying their hardest..
Now I understand it would be hard and all but aslong as you get along etc then I don't see a problem.
Im just kind of curious on everyone's views on it.

Can i just add I'm not thinking about dating anyone it was just something that got me thinking at work.

I think I'd struggle, but that's not a race thing or anything, I just really struggle to talk to people who don't speak great English - even if they're actually English themselves!

I think I would struggle dating someone who doesn't speak very good English. i find it hard to communicate with people at university who have a ok standard of english.
Although I find certain "foreign" people extremely hot!

I struggle A LOT with accents, so if he had a thick accent then it'd be a big no :P

So I think I wouldn't even get to know a person enough to discover I could date them tbh

iv d8ed ppl with portuguese and Chinese as their first languages and the portuguese guys were good @ english n it sounded sexy but the Chinese i cudnt rly understand n there was a barrier there because of it sooo as long as there's some sort of understanding then sure. n if ur only banging them then u don't need em to speak much english.

N if u rly like them u can learn their language like those 2 in love actually.

Like Laura, it's not a race thing at all I just think I would probably struggle.

if their English is really bad probably not but if they have a good conversational standard then of course. Have been with people whose first language wasn't English n have to say it's a bit of a turn on. Really good if they speak a language u would be interested in learning as well so u can teach eachoter :)

It'd depend on their standard of English... if you're having to explain absolutely everything then obviously that'd drive you up the wall. But having to explain the odd things like mainly slang words? Done it before and it doesn't bother me or irk me in the slightest (although not to dates but to people close to the family).

Hmm
Would be a tricky one really
I think a relationship is based off your connection with someone and if they're always speaking broken English how the hell could you know much about them?!
No harm in giving it a try though I guess...

Hmm if they spoke some English at least, then yeah. I'd be happy to learn their language though!

It would be quite hard yeah, but if we really really liked each other I'd want to help them with their English and try not to let it get between our relationship.

The person I love is not English, so yeah I'm apparently fine with that.

Shame about the 1555250 other barriers.

Depends how broken it is, but you can't help who you fall in love with.

Used to call that bullshit, turns out it's true.

If they we're fit and a good personality then I wouldn't care. - we'd probably have fun figuring what each other said.

probably not honestly, i'd feel like i couldnt talk the way i usually do and i'd have to explain things alot more and it would just be time consuming and not fun for meee

Maybe we should all become multi-lingual! again, id struggle but it's quite ignorant since they can actually speak a bit of our language whilst most of us know fuck all of their language

In fairness, if you are living in the UK, you shouldn't really be expected to speak their language, at least at first.

I doubt you'd fall in love with someone you literally can't communicate with anyway, though.

My immediate answer to this question was going to be no - but after thinking about it, I probably would. Like most people in this thread, if their English is beyond understandable then it'd be a no straight off as I wouldn't even be able to get to know them.

If they're someone with quite a hot accent, i.e. French, German (and more recently, Polish) and they know fluent English then I'd probably date them and see how much I can learn about them and stuff and see how they are as a person. :)

I think it depends on the connection you have with the person. Sometimes a language barrier can determine whether or not there is that special connection or not. I've gone on dates with men from all kinds of races... white, black, filipino, middle eastern, indian, etc... religion, race, appearance doesn't matter to me, but if there is communication issues, I feel like it could get in the way, even when I know the person is still very nice. Idk.
