I was going to post this in the life section but then I thought I'll post it here...
Please take your time to read this and understand the point I'm trying to make.
I watched a show earlier called 'I Know What You Weighted Last Summer' the show is about children who have problems with their weight and their parents/NHS/local authorities have sent them to a camp. Please watch the two part show on BBC 3 iPlayer.
On there the children keep calling themselves 'big' and 'fat' and 'ugly' etc and it breaks my heart each time someone says something like that about themselves or anyone else.
So I'm posting this (hopefully its not considered as pointless by MODS) to tell people there is NO SUCH THING AS BEING 'fat' or 'ugly' or anything. You live your live how you want to live it! Flip everyone else, they don't know what its like to live in your shoes.
Thank you for reading and please feel free to post a comment.
thats true live ur live the way you wanna

but yes there is. some people are huge and should lay off the pies.
fat isn't attractive and i dont see why we should be bullied by tumblr nuts into pretending it is.
i have fat friends and family members but i'm not gonna lie and say they're drop dead gorgeous lmao. they need to stop eating so much end of story.

They might not be 'drop dead gorgeous' to you personally, but whoever they are with/go with might think otherwise. I know where you're coming from when you say it's not attractive, but it's up to them if they wish to lose weight. I don't mean it in a harsh way, you were just the first one to mention it in that way.
Also it might not be down to the amount they eat, there can be other factors when it comes to someone being over or underweight.

oh indeed well there's no need to be horrible to people
but there seems in recent years to be a campaign to make being morbidly fat somehow acceptable when it isnt and shouldnt be

yeah but generally to humans it isnt attractive. it's like some people find having someone dump on their chest sexually attractive but for most of us its a no.
telling fat people they look stunning isn't just telling lies its also bad for them because being fat is very unhealthy and not good.

Find that attractive if you so desire but all I simply said is being fat does exists, contrary to your original post. If you say there's no such thing as being fat, it simply enables peoples poor behaviour which will ultimately lead to a premature death, but not before years of low(er) quality of life.
But sod that eh, live your life how you want it. Might just go drop out of uni, scrounge off my parents/the state and play games all day. Nothing and nobody else matters because that's what I want to do.

That is not the meaning of this post, the meaning is that too many people call people with weight problems names and I don't think its nice. They wouldn't like it/put up with it so why should everyone else?

Anyway, if someone has a problem with how people view them, then it's on that person to change themselves (and for overweight people this isn't particularly difficult). The only time it becomes anything more than that is if it becomes actual harassment.

Ok this will sound weird but just bear with me a minute. Ugh this is gonna take a long time to write to try and get this to sound the way I mean it.
As a fat girl myself (like medically speaking there is no dispute that I can be anything but Overweight and there's a capital "O" these days apparently) I can't stand it when people tell me there's no such thing as being fat or any of the other bullshit they come up with. I am fat and I'm not proud of it but it's what I am and it's actually really frustrating when people try to deny a fact that's staring them right in the face.
I am actually a little bit offended when people tell me I'm not fat or I'm just being too harsh on myself because I take it to mean that they are just lying to me, or are using "fat" as a synonym for "ugly" - the two might be connected but they are not the same thing. I even have people (who genuinely mean well and actually almost all of these occasions have occurred on Habbo) who won't let me say I'm fat and just keep telling me I'm wrong about my own body weight every time? The whole reason I don't look fat in photos is partly because I hardly ever take photos but mostly because I'm really careful about the angles (my face doesn't look that fat, for example) I take pictures from and I'll take a handful before I find one that actually makes me look ok. Everyone does that in photographs to make themselves look better and, trust me, you do not know better than me about my own weight.
Luckily for me some of my closest friends irl are overweight as well and they're all pretty chill with it. It makes me feel so much better about myself when we can laugh and joke about weight rather than just ignore it and lie to ourselves by pretending we're not fat. Not mentioning the matter doesn't miraculously trick everyone into not noticing my weight, it just becomes the elephant in the room (pun not intended but I'm extremely pleased with it now that it's there).
SO although you mean well PLEASE stop telling me I'm not fat. For one thing, I am and there's no use in denying it. And secondly it doesn't solve the issue; not talking about it, lying about it or just generally getting really tumblr-y about it actually just creates more stigma and I think that makes it even worse. I believe the number one way to solve touchy issues is to get to a point where it's ok to joke about them - laughter makes everything easier (inspirational I know).
so yeah
thanks sorry for the rant
P.S I just want to point out that my post is purposely nothing to do with whether being fat is ok or not or why people get fat, just about how I think being PC about being fat actually does more harm than good.
P.P.S When I say "you" in this post I just mean people in general. It's not directed at anyone.

Well I can assure you that its FUN-IS-MY-ME. Also for example, I know someone who eats healthy, exercises, portion controls but still puts weight on, there is a proper name for it but I'm not sure as to what it is at this moment in time.

It's classed as bullying to call someone fat? If that's the case then the word is being misused. As numerous people have said above, "fat" is not a word that is good or bad.

can't believe i've just seen posts comparing sexual attraction to being fat
you can't change your attraction but in the vast majority of fat cases you can go on a diet and exercise.
it's 100% proven that eating less and moving about works for obesity. i love the amount of "its a medical condition" claims we get nowadays as though the first Britons and early cavemen were sitting around with massive bellys and wobbly chins. it just didn't happen because its not a medical condition its behavioural.

In fairness, it's not just a case of eating too much. Obviously the only way to get fat is to eat more food than your body needs, but there is often a reason behind eating too much that is not so simple to cure and you won't be able to stop until that reason is sorted out. And the reason often leads you into a horrible spiral where you can't get out. For example:
Low self confidence > a small amount of teasing gets you very upset > comfort eating > putting on weight > more teasing > lower self confidence > comfort eating > putting on weight > more teasing > lower self confidence > etc
So just saying "eat less" is SO much easier said than done.

My face doesn't really have much fat round it as I've got a body shape that's closest to a pear I guess so no double chins for me thank GOD. But I do find myself looking in the mirror a lot like pulling back the sides of my face to see what I would look like if I had less fat. Do it with my arms as well; pinch fat out from under them to see what they'd look like if they were skinnier.
Do you wonder what you'd look like with a fuller face?

but eating less and moving more is how you lose weight. a lot of fat people just won't accept personal responsibility and try to blame it on a host of things. at the end of the day if you're shovelling food down your gullet and sitting around being a couch slug then its nobody's fault other than your own.

I always wonder what I'll look like if I changed my lifestyle and became a healthier weight, and I get motivated for about a week, and then return to my usual lazy self. I'm like Empired, I play around with my arm flab lots, fun. I am aware that I am fat, but it's just a description of myself. It's derogatory, but with good reason, you shouldn't be told otherwise, because at the end of the day, you will still be fat. Like everyone else has said, attractiveness doesn't rely on weight, but it is a contributing factor to your appeal to others.
There are medical conditions that lead to weight gain, but if you are personally offended by the idea of someone calling you fat, then you also need to put a bit more effort into the losing of the extra weight. Cutting out problem food groups can also help.
I'm not sure calling yourself fat/ugly classes as bullying though, are you suggesting that? idk anymore.

Still not that simple, I don't think. I don't want to sound whiney or like I just constantly feel sorry for myself because it's not like that even if I might be coming off this way.
I know that more exercise would help me lose weight and I love to exercise so it's not even like I can't be bothered or I just don't want to. I can't stand to exercise (particularly in exercise clothing and stuff) anymore because of bad experiences from the past. I was going to mention them in here but actually that isn't a lot of fun so I won't be doing that.
But basically I know those people who were horrible about me when I was exercising (it's happened out on the streets, in the park and at the gym) were just stupid and mean for no reason but I guess it's some sort of self preservation that means I never want to put myself in a situation where I'm vulnerable to those kinds of remarks ever again.

Why not at home? Buy a skipping rope or something. Boom-bam. Then you'll get to a point when remarks are made more infrequently.
As long as you're happy and not in any serious health problems don't give a fuck about what anyone else has to say xo

Doesn't help that my mother makes the same comments lol and she's not so easy to avoid :( Also I've tried numerous before but it's incredibly hard to keep yourself motivated when you're on your own in a room all the time. Yeah, of course it isn't a definitive factor in being overweight, just a contributing one. Similarly, there are also conditions which make it harder to lose weight. Thyroid issues for example can make the process of losing weight a little bit harder. No where near impossible, just harder.
Motivation is the hardest part of the process I think. Being laughed at for wanting to lose weight doesn't help either. I used to go running with my little brother before uni started and I'd get laughed at even though I was a lot skinnier than I am now, because I'd jiggle a little bit more than he would. It just becomes embarrassing.
Lauren just bought an exercise bike and I'm trying to reduce dairy in my diet, so I'm drinking soya milk etc. Baby steps.

Ah right yeah fair enough. I hate doing anything at home because of comments (not even necessarily negative). The only way I can keep any real "motivation" is usually watching TV, i.e. taking my mind off the actual exercise. At the end of the day regarding weight, food/calorie consumption is the most important thing to factor and speaking from personal experience, I wasn't able to escape the overeating habits until I no longer permanently lived at home.

That's really short term thinking and arguably selfish (depending on the person's situation), but whatever floats your boat.
I am all about loving yourself and being who you are, so I somewhat agree with Jurv; - as long as you're happy, it shouldn't matter what other people think. If you're unhappy, do something about it. At the end of the day you are responsible for yourself, so let people do whatever they want. I'd like to point out that not all overweight people are unhealthy, and not all skinny people are healthy either.
What bothers me is when people promote unhealthy eating - yeah it's attractive and sexy when a skinny girl eats junk food, but completely unacceptable when it's an overweight person eating it; "yeah I'm fat but I'd rather spend my life eating pizza than salads"... that kind of shit.
If people are teasing you for exercising, just ignore them and use it as motivation. That's what I do anyway! I know it is easier said than done, but hey if it was easy everyone would be fit!

Arguably, the bolded text is false (http://www.nhs.uk/news/2015/12December/Pages/The-idea-you-can-be-fat-but-fit-is-a-myth-study-argues.aspx). There's probably lots of studies supporting this, but this is the most recent I saw.

I don't disagree that being overweight may predispose one to health problems, but there is a difference between being overweight and obese (which seems to be the main focus of the article), and it seems silly to make a blanket statement about everyone on the spectrum, especially as the study population consists of only young men. Therefore, what I said may in fact be technically correct. Arguably.

What you said may be correct, but there's far less evidence to support your claim, so it probably isn't.

I said not ALL overweight people are unhealthy. Technically I need only provide an example of a person who is overweight but healthy to make my original statement true.

there is no such thing as fat and ugly? l o l post of the year right here
fuckin hell
Empired; I can't post quote on my phone apparently, but my friends and clients at work do the whole "aw you're not fat" crap to me too and I hate it.
I'm overweight. Partly because I have an eating disorder, partly because I have an under active thyroid, but mostly because I just ate too much lmao, I'm not gonna use the first two as an excuse. I started dieting at random times and people would take me out to lunch like "nah you don't need to diet, you're not fat" and would feed me these comments until they started to convince me that I'm not, so then I eventually got bigger and here I am now.
Although I actually have learnt to ignore them and started dieting properly now and lost nearly a stone woooo

being fat is unhealthy, this isn't about being ugly/pretty.. it's your health that should be the main focus. in all fairness overweight tumblr woman piss me off for trying to make this socially acceptable. it isn't and it's damaging life-span and diabetes is on the rise - this isn't about "accepting your beautiful body" it's about living a healthy lifestyle and not succumbing to an actual life-destroying illness.
