Has anyone travelled outside of the UK or their home country to visit another country abroad for a day/days/weeks? I've always wanted to travel to different European cities throughout the year and just explore them for a day or more and then return back home. As these days you can often find cheap tickets to certain European places with ease. But I've never travelled outside of the UK on my own before and nor will I be meeting up with anyone on the other side so I'm not sure If I should just go for it or what. I'm a bit nervous so that's why I've haven't just gone and done it.
And it's not that I don't have any friends, most of them are in relationships and won't come without their partner and I very much doubt they will come along for such a short trip due to money etc.
So, has anyone done it and if so what are your experiences on travelling alone and did you enjoy it etc?

ill come if u pay
I haven't personally ever done it but I have a friend who sees a new european city for a weekend once a month, he says it's really good cos you get to go see what *you* want, you don't have to waste time seeing what your friend wants to see cos you might not necessarily be bothered lol
So to say he does it once a month and is still going, it must be really good and a great experience so I'd recommend it

My brother went travelling around Europe once on his own and absolutely loved it. I don't think there's any issue at all with going alone really, in fact it could be quite nice in some ways! Sometimes it's just nice to get away for a while and even the travelling part becomes part of the adventure. Plus these days with modern technology it's hardly like being alone anyway as you'll probably be able to get wifi/internet so can constantly talk to friends/family etc whilst there. I think in the past it would have been a lot scarier not having that contact etc.

lol not such a good thing to advertise on a public forum cerys :¬:
I'd love to travel like that and think I would do it in the future if I had the money. Wouldn't want to go backpacking round Europe or anything as I think that would be exhausting and not a lot of fun if I was all on my own. But just like a day trip to Germany sounds great! Wasn't there some guy in England who wanted to go up to Scotland or somewhere and found it cheaper to buy a plane ticket to Berlin and then on to Scotland than to drive/get the train/get a plane ticket straight there? That would be great :8
oh right yes so just go for it?? If it's only for a day it's not like you're gonna get bored or feel particularly lonely, and even if you do it'll only be for a few hours and then you're off home again.

Yeah, he went home via Berlin because it was cheaper than a train ticket. Then he spent the day there and went back home. Funnily enough, it was that article that actually got me wanting to do this more because It's just so easy to do.

I think I'm going to go on holiday by myself this year!!! I find it so much more relaxing when I'm just on my own, although I hate the idea that if something happens there's no one to like, protect me or anything.
I'm thinking a trip to a warm island somewhere quiet, will just be relaxing!!

If you've got good travel insurance surely you'll be fine? And if you're going somewhere non english speaking a translation dictionary
How long would you go for? I think I'd be too scared to go somewhere alone for a long period of time. But actually I guess if I went to stay in a city with a lot of things to go and do and see then it would be a lot of fun, like Rome or somewhere. Just couldn't imagine me sitting on a beach on my own for seven days.

A week or long weekend I think!! yeah although it'd be fine physically if you had insurance and stuff if say, I got kidnapped or lost or something I wouldn't have someone to notice or worry until I didn't arrive back at home! But that's cos I'm just so worried about stupid things that aren't going to happen ahaha
I don't normally like doing nothing at home but I think I really need a proper break from work. Somewhere with a wifi connection and I'm sorted, really relax for a while

I don't think I'd be able to travel somewhere unknown to me on my own - the travelling would be fine I guess, but being there I'd probably have a panic attack or something cause someone tried selling me for a camel or something.
i would love to do something like this but i need money lol
Not sure on travelling from country to country but I'd go on holiday on my own. Me and Laura always go together but personally it'd be no different if she were there or not. I'm talking of going aboard to a set destination and not travelling though. If it was travelling around somewhere like Australia I'm sure it would be easy though.

i know a boy who did travel around europe on his own and he looked like he had lots and lots of fun
i couldn't do it personally
i can't even open a door by myself without freaking out can't imagine having a whole holiday on my own
well i could do it if it was just a stay in one place cook ur own food etc sort of holiday so like being at home really :/
I went to Russia on my own at the beginning of last summer for three weeks. I had accommodation sorted though, so I wasn't exactly a wayfarer wondering where my next meal or bed would be. It was a really great experience and I found it really easy to travel around and see what I wanted to see. If you're alone it's easier to meet new people too. Go for it.

I'm not 100% yet, I'm still searching for the best deals at the moment. I've been looking at places such as Munich, Oslo, Copenhagen etc

I haven't no.
I'll end up going to New Delhi in India on my own though, hopefully soonish. Then again if I pay more I can get a guided tour like a group going around so I may end up doing that in the end. I wouldn't like to do bagpacking and that sort of thing though I like to know there's somewhere I am settled in whilst there.
If you're travelling around Europe then I can imagine Vienna, Prague, St Petersberg and Moscow to be good ones to visit.

Like all things, there are pros and cons. I would do it if I understood the language, and I've been there before.
