I'm home alone most of the time and when there are other people in I'm not particularly interactive anyway, effort

Varies really. I enjoy the freedom but it can get dull after time. I'll also spook a bit easier just because I can't attribute the sounds to someone else even if logically, I know that it's probably just wind or pipes or something along those lines.

I'm the biggest worrier in the world and the slightest unusual sounds freak me out etc. I constantly worry about people breaking in and stuff, often have nightmares about it! I quite like being home alone in the daytime as it can be peaceful and I can be more productive, but with this house at least it's so weird when I'm here alone at night! It is an old house and there are lots of creaks haha!

I love being home alone. When I was younger I used to get scared at noises and things but now I just like the peace and quiet, I like being able to sing as loud as I want, watch what TV I want, just do whatever without being criticised a lot really.

i used to be home alone quite a lot when i was younger and i hate it so bloody much, it's just so lonely and boring. as well, i hate cooking dinner for myself cus i just dont see point so i never bother eating either so i just end up starving!! every day when i finish uni i look forward to when jake comes home. i dont think im gonna be murdered or anything just sucks, i like having someone about. my mother used to always say there was no point to her being home anyway because i'd never leave my bedroom, but it's just knowing someone is there that is comforting

thms; adrenaline and protectiveness kick in believe me!

I remember being home alone on mischief night and I literally just sat on the stairs with my laptop for ages as I hated it, in the day it's fine, in the night it's the worst thing! I've never had to be alone at night though, at least not for that long. One case was the day after I had my first and only panic attack, my parents were in Wales when I had it and the next night my sister was off out drinking; so I was alone until something like 3am and I wasn't going to bed until she was in safe! I was fine though, although she was very drunk and ended up falling over and scared me to death.

Another time was when my sister started university and began having panic attacks and my parents went to see her - I'm pretty sure this was until around 4am when they got back then I went to sleep. Although I got woke up 3 hours later to a phone call from work asking if I could come in early - forgetting I had little sleep I said yes, woops.

--------------------

Ok these aren't when I've been home alone, but they have been the scariest things and on one occasion I was the only one awake so it was like being alone.

In July last year I was up on my laptop fairly late, well later than usual anyway - I go on my laptop in the kitchen, so it's the back room that goes onto our back garden which has gates on so no one gets in there. We have the living room and the kitchen light on until the last person goes to bed; it was 3:40am and there was a knock on the door - I wasn't sure if I heard it right, so I listened again and they knocked again. I immediately went and sat on the floor trying to hide and rung my mum who was upstairs! Both my parents got up and my dad checked to see if anyone was around and they weren't, I was pretty scared and then went to bed.

Around a week after that happened I was on my laptop and at 1am someone knocks on the front door, my dad was about to go to bed, but I could hear him go to the door to answer it (he said he thought it was my ex because it 'sounded like his knock' (it didn't, but anyway)). I heard the key in the door then I didn't hear anything - I was aware of the time so I was just out of view of the living room, but I was basically eavesdropping whoever it was at the door. I hear raised voices and then I look and see a man who has clearly pushed my dad over the sofa and is towering over him. Seriously if you're in a situation like this adrenaline will pretty much kick in, I ran into the room screaming "Get out of my fucking house" (I never, ever swear in front of my parents so this was a shock to me too), kept screaming at him to get out, threatened him with the police (at this point, it was summer I was in a t shirt and some knickers, but I really didn't care I just wanted him out), my mum comes down then as she heard shouting and she thought me and my dad had, had an argument - she then saw the man so she got him to leave, literally had to push the door towards him to get him to leave. My sister pretty much had a panic attack not sure what was happening - she thought it was me and my dad so she was going to come downstairs to be the peace keeper then heard someone else's voice so went back upstairs scared to death. Anyway, I won't go into detail why he came or anything, but that night I couldn't even sleep, I told my ex (who was my boyfriend at the time) what had happened, and he asked if I wanted him to come and we'd go for a drive, I just couldn't face it I was far too scared. The message in that story is that since that happened, I haven't been able to stay downstairs alone on my laptop, I only just manage it when my sister's home from university as we share a room so the light and sound isn't fair on her so I have to stay downstairs. We turn the living room light out if I'm on my laptop in the kitchen. I hate being alone in the house and refuse to turn the living room light out if they've all gone to bed because it's that terrifying. Also, I just generally hate being alone (I've learned to cope a fair bit with it now), but one time when I woke up my parents had gone out and my sister was at university - I was so convinced someone was downstairs I even took anything I could find to hit them with if someone was there, it was just really scary. The thing was with that, we went on holiday a few weeks later and I was scared the man would come and find us on holiday as I usually do my own stuff there so I didn't want to be alone either! To this day I still get scared if someone knocks on the door, I literally have to run upstairs to look from my bedroom window to see who it is.

TL;DR - I hate being home alone, especially at night as stuff happened ok.

i use to get really really nervous about even being upstairs alone! use to only go to my bedroom to play when my brother was next door in his, was so bad and i use to have nightmares that there were these men tormenting me outside my bedroom window was so awks
but now i get home at like 4 from school and i'm home alone until 6-7 which doesn't bother me! we don't usually have a problem with burgulars or anything because our house is in a spot where there are houses backed on to ours and houses all round the front (only one road, uphill circle of houses i forget what theyre called now)

never stayed home alone at night i don't think... stayed home for days during summer holidays and that but never really have a huge problem. Answering the door gets me going but that's mostly because i get nervous to sign for a parcel

im not that phased by it
most the time i don't notice if i am or not
my mum is out quite often and my sister goes out sometimes
my stepdad NEVER goes out literally never so hes locked in his room (i'm never able to check cos he got like a 10 digit code lock or something on his door but idk the code??)
or hes downstairs in bed but never out

however he went out with my mum once and i didnt notice
so i had 10 friends over and we were all in my bedroom andi didn't realise we were the only people home until my mum n stepdad walked in the door was like oh we could've been loud :(
yeah i'm not really phased by it though perks of dogs tht if any stranger comes in the door or in the house they'll bark their heads off (even tho theyre only lil shih tzus)
dunno what id do if peeps broke in though lmao climb out my window onto the extension roof n call the police
we've had like 2 break ins over the house opposite tho in past couple months!! gr8 area

I've never acutally spent the night on my own but id probally get scared at any noise. sometimes my brother comes in in the
middle of the night and I always think its some murder and I'm terrified.
I like being on my own in the day for abit it means I can clean without anyone in. is that sad? I enjoy cleaning. but after awhile it gets boring and I get lonely. its even weirder when you don't acutally know where everyone is and you feel like you've been
abandoned

ah yeah I hate being home alone when I don't know where people are because I like to know when they're coming back. Not because I feel abandoned tho but because I want to know if I've got time to wash my hair, bake a cake, start something, etc.

I used to be just like that haha, any small noise I would think I'm gonna die. I got better when I moved out and had to live alone and now I'm fine with it

scottish

I don't mind it, if someone was wanting to break in they'd have to go through 2 doors which wouldn't be easy/quiet.

Although with renting, imagine how easy it would be for a previous tenant to have taken a copy of the keys and just let themselves in..

But yeah with this house there's always loads of weird noises and what's the worst that can happen, if someone's in my house I'll take them.
