RAF Typhoons have been scrambled to intercept two Russian bombers heading towards UK airspace, the Ministry of Defence has said.
The jets were dispatched from RAF Coningsby in Lincolnshire on Wednesday afternoon following the security alert.
A spokesman said two Russian Blackjacks were escorted in an "area of interest" but did not enter UK airspace.
Russian military planes have been intercepted near the UK at least six times in the past 12 months.
In November a similar incident saw two Russian bombers escorted by Typhoon jets after being detected flying over the Atlantic.

Uh oh...

Quite a common occurrence by Russia. Least it's good training practice for the Typhoon pilots.

It is such a shame that relations between Britain & Russia are so low when both really should be close allies as both historically share the same concerns regarding Europe. Instead we seem attached to our main rival of the past century or two - the United States - and complacent about German expansion.

Just testing response times, we probably do the same thing to them. Happened throughout the cold war as well, Russia just likes to remind us they are close by ;)

Yeah like chappy above said, we all do it to each other you just only hear about it when it's the Russians coming close to our clouds :P would be fun to be one of the escorts just pull up next to the plane like alright mate having fun there
