Makers Sony yesterday orderd them to switch off immediatly because of a power hazard,
The firm has told 3.5 million who have the slimline black version of the games console sold between August 'n' december 2004, that the mains adaptor could melt, a statement said: "These units have a potential to overheat and may cause an injury hazard to consumers. the fault was discoverd from a small number of cases of the AC adaptor overheating and in several cases mealting"

The UK's high main voltage means the devices are more likely to fail before it melts. but Sony is taking no chances.
The firm has promised owners including hundreds 'n' thousands in the UK they will replace adaptors free. People who think they may have one of the faulty adaptors are Urged to go to www.ps2ac.com for more infomation call 0800 555 516.Earlier this year microsoft was forced to Recall power cables after 30 reports of minor injury or property damage (Fire). The Recall affected almost Three quarters of Xbox consoles sold world-wide since its 2001 launch.
