Sam Smith caused controversy at the Oscars when he claimed he was the first openly gay star to win an Oscar.
And acclaimed screenwriter Dustin Lance Black has hit back at the singer on Twitter following the incident, reminding Sam that he'd won an Academy Award himself for Best Original Screenplay in 2009 for Milk. The openly-gay star also took the opportunity to publicly blast Sam for 'texting' his fiancé Tom Daley, sending social media into meltdown with his cutting comment.
Lance, 41, took to social media to shut down Sam in spectacular fashion, writing, 'Hey @SamSmithWorld, if you have no idea who I am, it may be time to stop texting my fiancé.'
The LGBT rights activist added, 'Here's a start', before sharing a link to a video of him accepting his award at the 81st Academy Awards from presenters Tina Fey and Steve Martin. Fans went wild following the Twitter spat, sharing endless funny memes about the clash. Several posted humorous GIFs of celebrities pulling awkward faces, while others opted for the classic 'tea sipping' diss.
Lance and Olympic diver Tom, 21, got engaged in October 2015 after two years together. MailOnline has contacted both Lance and Sam's representatives for comment. This comes after Sam dedicated his Academy Award for best original song to the LGBT community on Sunday. Sam and songwriter Jimmy Napes won the prize for Writing's On the Wall from Spectre, which followed in the footsteps of Adele's more critically praised Bond song Skyfall by taking the gong.
omgggggg the Oscars were even worse than I expected.
First we had these two girls fighting. And let me just say this, Sam you won an Oscar because of you are musically talented. You didn't win it because you are gay. Infact, you being gay has absolutely nothing to do with winning an Oscar. Same goes for Dustin Lance Black. I love how Sam Smith in his speech mentioned wanting equality too, here he is standing there winning an Oscar and still has the nerve to peddle that lie. Get a grip girls.
THEN we had Leo DiCaprio winning his Oscar. Hey he's a great actor but WHY Leo did you have to drone on about global warming... it's not even as though you had anything original to say about it either, something along the lines of "global warming is real" - ah well if you Leo an actor says so then it must be true! I'd take him a tad more seriously too if he didn't fly around the world on a private jet not to mention his huge yacht.
See this why I like the oldies like Dame Angela Lansbury. They arrive there, don't tend to **** anyone off, get up and thank the production teams and their families and then get off the stage. Dignified and don't make a big song and dance of it. Classy and humble in victory. Events like the Oscars make me miss Queen of the Red Carpet Joan Rivers even more than ever... was always there on the red carpet to ground these vain people.
Thoughts?
