My first job was at Morrisons on the tills and I had the interview just after my 18th birthday as I remember talking about my brother coming to visit for my birthday. Think it was a couple of days later that I started and ended up spending 14 months there before moving on!

I got my first job at Home Bargains when I was 18 - I worked in the Bradford store from August 2012 until October 2012 then moved to the Racecourse store (the Bradford one was an hour drive each way, but a family member managed to get me there and then I had to wait for a space at the other shop). At Bradford I was on a made up contract of 16 hours over 2 days, so I would do all day Saturday and Sunday, but sometimes got put in other days too. When I moved to the Racecourse store they messed it up, put me as a leaver instead of a transfer so I didn't get paid for two weeks, then I got told I was only on an 8 hour contract.

After a few months 2 people got fired so I asked for more hours and got given a 16 hour contract as I wasn't in college or anything and I could do any hours. Nearly 4 years later I'm still there, I've gained a pay rise since turning 21, had an interview for a manager position (but couldn't get it due to a relationship with a manager at the time) and got 1 person fired! Fun times. Although it's a job that can be a pain in the backside sometimes I love it so much and I couldn't imagine not working there. I'm one of the only people in the shop who literally does every job and hasn't really got a set shift I do, plus they know if they ring me 9/10 times I'll go in as extra so I think I've got that job for a while :P.

But my actual first job was when I was 16 at sainsburys on checkouts, then I got another when I was 16 and 17 in mcdonalds, and my most recent job was at sainsburys again in the clothing dept!

When I was 16 I did some volunteering in a local charity shop for a summer which was nice. Did the same in my first year of Uni as well but my first paid job was 2 years ago (I was 20), almost exactly! I've been doing freelance paid work since I was about 16 though too.

My first job was in a pub & grill when I was 17. I hated it, regret doing it 'cause it affected my college work because I was going to college from 8am to 8pm Monday, Tuesday, Thursday & going straight from college to work on Wednesday evening, friday & working as long as 14 hour shifts on Saturday and Sunday.

That's awful Hannah! I would have broken down after a while wow
Also, I thought you weren't allowed to do more than X hours if you're in full time education? Or is it just that schools ask you not to?

There probably is something there in place for those in full time education, but this place didn't follow the rules. It was a horrible place with horrible people.

I didn't break down, but I was passing out from exhaustion regularly, which is quite scary. Lost a heck of a lot of weight too. I lasted just under 2 years before I just couldn't do it anymore, it was literally killing me. xD

Now I'm lucky enough to be in a 9-5:30 Monday to Friday job with a lovely team of people. :)

I got my first job at 15, was in a newsagents, worked there up until February this year. I'm glad I got the job when I did, it was my own income and introduced me to dealing with the public. It also opened up more opportunities in terms of training and future jobs.
