I either read or play on my 3DS. The time flys when I do that!
I usually download films onto my iPad and just watch them! it seems to go pretty quickly, well it does for me anyway! X
If you can handle looking at a screen without getting motion sickness then I agree with Jurv.

i usually just use my phone or attempt to read, but both of them make me feel very sick so cant do it for long :( i usually just put on some good music and chill out.

Take a notebook with you, there are lots of random games you could play whilst you're in the car. Even if your mum is driving she could play along somewhat too.
For example, you could look at number plates and find one that starts with every letter of the alphabet, make the rule that you can't move onto the next one until you find one etc.
Choose a type of vehicle (bus, tanker, car carrier etc.) or a colour of a car each and count how many you find and mark them down. The winner is the one with the most.
You could even just play eye spy to kill some of the time. In September I went from Yorkshire to Edinburgh and it took a few hours; as I'd never been out of England I didn't want to sleep and miss anything, but there were more people in the car then. Generally we had the radio on and different music, I took my 3DS and bought a magazine to read and do the puzzles.
Aside from that I was just looking at all the scenery and my surroundings because it was the furthest I'd ever been away from home without my family, apart from when I went to London.

I turn on music and just enjoy watching everything moving by. Idk if it's weird but I can do that for hours with just me and my mum in the car, chatting sometimes, singing along to the music sometimes, and just doing whatever. It's really nice :)

I either take my tablet or my laptop, most of the time when I take my tablet, I make a hotspot on my phone so I can watch netflix on my tablet but it eats my data

music is the best for long trips - aka flying for 14-16 hours you get sick of movies after awhile

I smoke and respond to my emails, I do most of the driving so it's not usually an issue.

Used to go on long train journey when my sister was living in Dorset so i just took my laptop and some films to watch but we would end up just eating to past time. we had a lot of changes as well so a lot of the time we would be spending hours just sitting stations so we got to people watch which is a great past time. only time ive been in a long car ride has been with little kids so we would play a lot of games (and they wouldn't leave you alone either until they fell asleep) I spy is a great game.

Text mostly or listen to music. Sometimes I bring a book to read. :P
