The voting takes place tomorrow and what you can vote on depends in which area you live in. I've posted the 2012 results above because the Local Council seats that are up for election this year are those from 2012 so you can't compare with say 2015 or 2014 as it is different seats.

Main focus is whether Jeremy Corbyn's Labour can prove itself as a viable opposition to the government and win seats under his leadership. In addition, there's been a big focus on the London Mayoralty elections with the main two candidates being Labour's insufferable Sadiq Khan and Conservative Zac Goldsmith in the race to replace Boris Johnson as Mayor. Mayor elections are also taking place in other cities such as Liverpool.

Thoughts?

If Goldsmith doesn't win then RIP London, don't really care about the others since no-one but Conservative will ever win my area and the police commissionership is a total scam that means nothing anyway

think i'm gonna vote the Independent candidate for Liverpool mayoralty as he doesn't seem mad and Ukip for council seat if they're standing. agreed with Tom on Zac Goldsmith in regards to London. Khan makes my skin crawl. Goldsmith has good independent-minded record on EU and environmental issues and his dad was a babe

I haven't had a letter in the post with my polling station so I'm so annoyed! I registered in time as well just haven't had anything. Gonna go via the closest polling station to me before work tomorrow and hope I'm on the list ;///

voting for london mayor again, how exciting! I'm voting for one of the two main candidates for Mayor but for local I'm going to vote for the person I actually want to and hope that their party gets a few seats in the London Assembly.

Supported Goldsmith right up until a few days ago when he revealed himself to be an embarrassing liar. No longer care if it is Khan or Goldsmith.

Just went and voted, was tempted to leave it as there's no need to vote if the selection is naff.

Anyway voted for the Independent guy for Mayor of Liverpool, voted English Democrats for local councillor and the useless post of Police and Crime Commissioner only had the LibLabCon and Greens so I put a large X across the ballot. On way back in my street I watch a guy place his beer can on a wall and said ay mate you left your beer on the wall there and he then picked it up and tried being all pally. Voting for some opposition to Labour's vice-like grip and telling a litter bug off, two good deeds done in a day. :P

Inseriousity.

Only had PCC vote in my area so completely pointless. Had to google the candidates cos I'd not had anything through letterbox or local media.

Total political geek but it'd be interesting to see the effect that Corbyn has outside London (if any), whether UKIP increases its lead or its earlier successes were its peak and whether the destruction of the Lib Dems continues or they manage to bounce back

Polls have now closed across the United Kingdom.

Sunderland, as usual, will be first to declare in under an hour.

The first Sunderland results seem to be giving us an indication of that already...

All the City of Newcastle results in so this is the combined result below (changes) on 2012.

Very much a Labour sharply down (but retaining seats) & Labour to Ukip drift outside London emerging tonight as Mike Inseriousity; mentioned earlier

Calling for diversity on the TfL board to better reflect the makeup of London, both in gender and race =\= racist? Damn, you must hate the entire private sector of the world.

The private sector chooses people for the job based on their ability to do the job, not their skin colour or any other irrelevant attributes. The board of TfL is there to run a good service, not "reflect" society at large which is mostly white anyway just as society at large in India is mostly brown. Worrying about the skin colour complexion of the board of TfL is one of the most racist statements I have heard. In addition to that, being brown/black/yellow or white does not automatically make you anymore qualified to do a job unless you're literally rehearsing for a character role.

Imagine the outrage if somebody said there's too many black men in Hackney market. Or too many muslim men owning corner shops in Tower Hamlets.

Hahahaha haha, no it doesn't. The tech industry is desperately trying to get more women in senior positions, more ethnic minorities also (hence why they publish annual reports on their diversity targets). Most of the world is desperate for more women in senior positions.

Stop living in a dream world; almost every industry in the world is asking for the exact same thing as Mr. Khan.

Companies are asking for such things because they're made to; anyone with any sense knows that it's more important to have people who can do a job well than to have forced token "minorities" (as if women are a minority anyway) just to plump figures and make things look lovely

As far as I can tell, I'm not disputing such a fact. I am simply disputing Dan's assertion of what the private sector does; simply put, it isn't true. Of course, the argument can be made that a diverse workforce brings its benefits, but that is another dispute (and well, women are by definition a minority when it comes to the boardroom...).

Believe me, as a middle class British male, jobs given for the sake of diversity don't benefit me; I'm merely pointing out the facts.

What Tom said is right and I have no idea why you're bringing private sector into it as TfL is a state body.

Khan is a racist end of story.

What Tom said is irrelevant to my point. If you questioned why I brought the private sector into it originally I'd half accept your point. On the basis you tried to argue that the private sector only chooses based on ability, I'll just take that as confirmation that you know nothing about private sector business. Congratulations.
