He was recently forced to miss Ronnie Corbett's funeral due to ill health.

And it has now been revealed that Bruce Forsyth is too sick to even attend his wife, Wilnelia's, birthday party, next Wednesday. The 88-year-old entertainer is still recovering from keyhole surgery that he had in November, following a fall at his home in Wentworth in October.

A source told The Sun newspaper on Saturday: 'He would have loved to be there. But it would be so wrong while he is still trying to get well.

'Recovering from a major operation is taking longer than anticipated. We just need to be careful.' However, the source also disclosed that Bruce's condition had not worsened since Ronnie's funeral and that they were hopefully that the TV legend would be on the mend soon.

In December, wife Wilnelia, 58, said that it would take just one or two months for her husband to recover. After Bruce was still ill after the death of Ronnie in April, his manager was quoted as saying that he was only 'two or three weeks away' from being 'out and about'.

However, the Strictly Come Dancing host is still unable to get out of the house and, as a result, will be forced to miss his wife's birthday.

Oh no I hope he is okay. Not looking good though given he hasn't been seen (but has been heard) for months in public now.

I really like Sir Bruce. I watched a programme a few years back on him talking about his life, showing his routine: he's a very hard worker. To have lasted all these decades across so many fields in the entertainment industry is pretty special. He seems like a genuinely nice man too.

Get well soon hopefully.

Sir Bruce Forsyth is focused on getting better and had made "no formal or informal decision about retiring", his manager has said.

Reports have suggested the 88-year-old is considering calling it a day after a serious fall at home last October.

He also had surgery for an unconnected aneurysm that was discovered during tests following the accident.

But his manager, Ian Wilson, said no decision had been made about Sir Bruce's future: "As is widely known, Sir Bruce is recuperating from various health issues.

"His sole focus at the moment is to continue getting better and he has made no formal or informal decision about retiring from show business."

His wife, Lady Wilnelia Forsyth-Johnson, spoke about his health problems in June.

"He's doing much better. But he's still convalescing. It was a big, big operation," she said.

"It's taking much longer than we expected, but we're positive that he can recuperate 100%."

Sir Bruce's ill health also forced him to miss the funeral of his great friend comedian Ronnie Corbett in April.

The showbiz stalwart took his first steps in the industry 1939 and became a household favourite thanks to hugely popular shows such as The Generation Game and Sunday Night at the London Palladium.

His decade hosting Strictly Come Dancing cemented his enduring popularity, but he stepped down from that role in 2014.

He even delighted crowds at Glastonbury in 2013, when he appeared at the festival aged 85 to play a set of classic songs.

Strictly Come Dancing host Tess Daley shared a photo of her dancing with Sir Bruce with her Instagram followers this week.

She added the caption: "Dancing with the legend that is Brucie at Strictly a few years back xxx."

Nearly a year now that he was last seen in public... doesn't bode well.

Would love for him to be back in public for Christmas on Strictly. :(
