View Full Version : Family heritage
I was recently talking to my aunt who looks into the heritage of my mother's side and its crazy how far back my mother's ancestry goes. My mother's family came from England during the early 1900's to start new. They settled in the northern USA states and then later traveled across the border to Ontario which where they reside now.
Does anyone know anything about their family heritage/ancestry?

My mum had an obsession with it a few years back and wouldn't stop going on about it : l
The only interesting thing she found was that we're related to Captain Morgan u know the pirate guy or whatever. Don't ask me how we're related cos I didn't listen to that part, doesn't interest me whatsoever!

We actually went back into the 1700's on my mother's father's side. I learned from that that I'm English and Scottish :P Scottish is way in the 1800-1700's though. English is a lot closer.
I'M ALSO A JERSEY GIRL AND NEW YORKER. Maybe that's why i'm so dramatic and crazy tbh. Probs related to the jersey girls.
Think I'd like to do mine sometime. I know as far back as my great great great grandmother/ father names and occupations.

Ok yh so asked my mum a bit more about it and;
On my mums side it's all Welsh for agees
Then on my dad's side they're a tad all over the place, so it's mainly all Irish with a tad Scottish mixed in rlly far back, but also my dad's mums dad (??) was Indian so thts a bit unexpected for me !! But everyone always said to me and my aunt that we have a very Indian cheek/bone structure so I guess that makes sense now
But yh so mainly mums side is Welsh and dads side is Irish

My dad's dad's dad came from Scotland and all of my other great-grandparents are Australian. Before that as far as I know it's all English and Irish.
I would love to trace my family tree, I believe my mum's brother has traced their dad's line a long way back.

All I know is that most of my family came from Ireland.
I wanted to do this a year or so ago but all these sites required $$$ to get access to records so I gave up
maybe I will try again some day

my parents have briefly mentioned my family heritage to me before but i'd completely forgot and decided to do a quick google search
i found that my surname derives from a name meaning "ruler of the world" and that my ancestors were a powerful irish family who were kings, princes and lords in donegal and there's also a family castle in donegal too! and there's a coat of arms for us wow

scottish past grandparents idk
I am not entirely sure, I have a rough idea that my family mostly lived around the Cotswolds. My grandmother in the UK has done a full blown family tree going well through the 1800s.
