Jeremy Corbyn sacks Hilary Benn from shadow cabinet
Hilary Benn has been sacked as shadow foreign secretary by Labour leader Jeremy Corbyn.
Reports had circulated that Mr Benn had been encouraging shadow ministers to resign if Mr Corbyn ignored a no confidence motion levelled against him.
The move comes as the Labour head said he will stand again if the party runs a fresh contest in the face of growing unease from MPs.
He made it clear that he is not willing to stand down as he faces public calls to stand down.
Apparently Labour MPs in safe seats - many of which went for Leave - now feel extremely vunerable (think of SNP in Scotland). The accusation is that Corbyn secretly supported Brexit - true - but I am unsure how removing him actually solves the huge disconnect between the party and its voters.
We're expecting resignations to happen all today.

Out of curiosity who is we? You make it sound as if you're party of some kind of news organisation.
Fair enough Cameron, he'd essentially be forced into doing something he strongly disagrees with so that's logical that he would leave (and if shit hits the fan it's going to be aimed at someone who agreed with the results).
But I don't see why him standing down would have any use, party leadership already changed what, not even a year ago?

If Corbyn doesn't step down there's a real risk now of an SDP style split of the Labour Party.
A repeat of history after the EEC referendum of 1975. Labour was nearly destroyed over Europe.

Tom watson also apparently said he's disappointing about Benn being sacked and saddened by resignations, so unlikely he'll resign.

Even more....
Corbyn has issued a statement saying those wishing to depose him must stand in a leadership election, in which he will be a candidate in.

Corbyn is refusing to deny he voted Leave.
I always said there was no doubt as a 40+ year campaigner against the EU that he was going to vote Leave in the polling booth.

Sky News are reporting the following but I haven't seen it on BBC just yet. So don't know how true the below is yet or if the other sites are a bit late.
Labour No Confidence Vote
The party will vote on the motion of no-confidence in Jeremy Corbyn tomorrow, with the result likely to be received by 4pm.

This happened in the last hour in PMQs. Wow.

By all means it looks as though Corbyn is determined to stand again which begs the question if the membership re-elect him, what next?
Maybe the Liberal Democrats do have a hope of getting some MPs back one day. :P

Hang on, is he basically saying stop with the bullshit party politics and do what is best for the country? And people are shouting "resign" because he said that?

Luciana Berger and Kate Green have also left according to Guido. Got no-one left. Rumours are abound that Labour are going to offer Green MP Caroline Lucas 'Shadow Energy Secretary.' Apparently there's precedent for this cross-party appointment but not sure what it is.

Lol I loved Cameron's dig. He said to the newly-elected Labour MP to keep her phone out because she'll be in the shadow cabinet by the end of the day haha

I'm lost. I don't know Corbyn or his policies but it seems like he's been used as a scapegoat.
Instead of the party fighting they should actually look at why people voted leave. People voted leave because they are tired of the current system and feel Let down. Corbyn didn't cause this

As many as 150 MPs will vote to oust Jeremy Corbyn on Tuesday, as the Labour leader threatened to recruit 100,000 hard-Left supporters to cling onto power.
In a dramatic day in Westminster, Mr Corbyn was hit by dozens of resignations over his leadership as the total of frontbenchers to leave rose to 43 over the last two days.
The Labour leader faced heckles of “resign” from his own MPs as he attempted to face down the coup in the House of Commons by claiming rebels were being unpatriotic for challenging him.
Later in a heated private meeting with MPs, backbenchers openly mocked him as he attempted to claim he can win a general election.
The row spilled out into the corridors as MPs and Mr Corbyn’s aides challenged each other over their behaviour in recent days.
Moderate MP John Woodcock accused the leader’s office of spreading “lies and distortion”, while Corbyn aides challenged rebels to call a contest “tomorrow” because they are so confident of victory.
Angela Eagle, who resigned as shadow business secretary, is now considering launching a leadership challenge as contenders begun sounding out colleagues for support.
Mr Corbyn was on Monday told by Tom Watson, the Labour deputy leader, that he had lost the support of his MPs and should prepare for a leadership contest.
Five previously supportive shadow cabinet ministers also resigned after a tense meeting with Mr Corbyn, with one of the left-wingers being left in tears.
Yet the Labour leader remained defiant, with aides insisting he would not be toppled by the “corridor coup” and challenging rivals to beat him in a formal leadership contest.
They are ready to exploit party rules that allow people to temporarily join Labour for £3 to recruit 100,000 left-wing activists who would primarily back Mr Cobryn in a vote.
Momentum, the pro-Corbyn activist group, gathered more a thousand supporters to Parliament Square as a show of support for the Labour leader, chanting “Corbyn Stay”.
The guy is a crappy leader. He looks out of touch, he cannot debate, he looks half asleep. He needs to go.

Like I said earlier I don't know much about him or his policies but people seem to bash him based on his looks. Didn't cameron once say he didn't look smart enough.

Whether you like him or not surely at this point if he's really looking to do "what's best" he should stand down, since all he's doing at the moment is tearing Labour apart and making it even easier for Conservative to carry on smiling. I mean even Cameron is making fun of them and he's about to be on the dole

I've always liked Corbyn. I'm 100% against him on policy, well maybe 99% given he was against the Iraq war and wanted to leave the EU, but I like the fact he has stuck to his principles for the last forty years. I respect conviction politicians and he's one of them even if he is a virtual communist opposed to me on everything. He's a seemingly modest man who actually engages with people rather than be driven around by security services and make vapid speeches to party loyalists.
I want him to stay, for a few reasons. I think he's a thousand times better than the slimy Blairites which now infest Labour and Conservative parties. I like his no spin style of talking. Another reason is that he's helping to demolish the Labour Party which needs to go down the plughole as it did in Scotland.

A motion of no confidence in Labour leader Jeremy Corbyn has been passed by the party's MPs.
The 176-40 vote, which is not binding, follows resignations from the shadow cabinet and calls on Mr Corbyn to quit.
