I always forget about my gifts, I know you can go three days without getting one to still have them all available, but I tend to forget then too. I went on Habbo last night and it was ages before I realised I could actually still get free furniture, one of the items I got was originally 16 Credits in the Market Place when it first started, and now it's worthless lmao.

It could be a run up the Olympics as I know that will be a pretty big event it seems. So the free gifts could be while the torch is doing the rounds.
