This happened overnight:

A failed Syrian asylum seeker has blown himself up and injured 12 other people with a backpack bomb near a festival in the south German town of Ansbach.

The state of Bavaria's interior minister said the 27-year-old man had detonated the device after being refused entry to the music festival.

About 2,500 people were evacuated from the venue after the explosion.

Bavaria has been on edge since a knife rampage on a train claimed by so-called Islamic State last Monday.

The Ansbach blast is reported to have happened at about 22:10 (20:10 GMT) outside the Eugens Weinstube bar in the centre of the town, which has a population of 40,000 and is home to a US military base.

The bomb went off close to the entrance to the Ansbach Open music festival.

Don't really know what to say to this, fortunately no one died in this incident.

What's perhaps scariest is that this is the third of four attacks in Germany this week that we can't currently attribute to IS - it seems these aren't particularly radicalised people, just violent ones who want to commit these atrocities for their own sake. This guy supposedly had tried to kill himself twice in the past and was well known for telling delusional stories to get attention from those around him, and it's just a miracle that his damage was so limited in the end. If he'd been allowed into the festival it could have been disastrous

Actually it's believed that he did it because his refugee status was denied and he was getting deported but whatever suits your heartless rhetoric when there's a tragedy

Not at all what I said, just that you're wrong to ignore the tragedy of the event and skip to blame everything on "letting" refugees in which wasn't the case here
