alright so think back to your DT lessons at school

what do you remember making?

in woodwork we made a spatula and my mum was still using it like ten years on until recently, in metal work i remember making a coat hanger and an animal (i picked a scorpion). and in sewing we made a slipper and a pillow case.

i was alright at making stuff tbh but the process was dragged out so much just to make these tiny things. i can't recall how many design sheets i had to do for a bloody coat hanger but jesus i was at the end of my tether

It seems like an eternity ago now haha! We're so old!

I vaguely remember the plastic edges being really hard to get smooth once I had cut them to shape which bugged me for ages. We were learning about clock mechanisms and stuff at the time and had to design our own haha. I don't know what happened to it actually :o Probably broke and got binned :(

Umm in year 7/8 dt we made like a necklace of our initials out of some melted metal and a cuttlefish cast which I still have. It was pretty cool cos I was the first one to finish so I was the first to pour the metal, so I got to wear the big gloves and mask and all the gear and pour it! Then the teacher decided it'd take too long for everyone so nobody else got to pour it he did it for them so I was the only one which I was happy about lmfao

Then we also made a clock out of plastic like Martin, mine was a PacMan ghost which is still up in the kitchen haha

In gcse product design I made a mobile out of balsa wood which was SHIT but I got an A somehow even tho the teacher laughed when he saw it

We made a lamp and had to encorporate electronics and circuit boards into it as well. In textiles I made an aapron and a tea cosy. For the rest of the time I did food tech, the teachers both wanted me so I had double food tech :D

In year 7 in woodwork we made a pencil holder, we had to choose an animal to be the back of it. I chose a cat, even though it looks more like an owl, but I still have it.

The first couple of years in textiles we did cross stitching and weaving, but it was fun. In year 9 we made a pillow, I never finished mine, but I'm so bad at sewing anyway.

In others we did magazines etc.

In product design in year 9 we had to make a picture holder and design and create the packaging it went in. I chose the theme of Manchester United and made a picture holder in a shirt shape it was pretty cool.

In GCSE I took product design, I wanted to take woodwork, but they wouldn't allow any girls to take it. We had to make a magazine and a free gift to go with it, I chose a children's magazine so I made a clock that you could take the numbers out of and rearrange to help children tell the time.

The magazines were really bad to make as I was used to Photoshop or Fireworks and we only had Photoshop Elements to do it and it was rubbish.

A key fob with a light, a scooby doo out of wood that could move the tail. Some box thing out of wood too. And some sort of lamp!

we made a little container with little drawers coming from it, it was rly cute. it was coming towards christmas and they said it was a "reusable advent calendar" that we'd stock up ourselves. it was a cute idea but i could never stock it up because i'd just eat the chocolate as i was filling it tbh. i fill it for my nieces every christmas now though

y7/8 -

plastics - I made an egg thing with a bit for some toast underneath, it was utter gross and also made half of a key ring
wood - desk tidy but out of wood and had to make it unique by putting a logo or something on to it
textiles - made a cushion cover
product design - made a building out of straws and also the 'egg project' where we made something to protect an egg and it got dropped from diff heights, we lost cos our egg cracked from like 2m high
food - made loads but remember making a jar of tomato sauce

y9 (didn't do as much as we only had roughly 4-5 weeks in each thing for the year) -
plastics - it was a lot of theory about watches and i cant properly remember but we did another desk tidy because i remember spending like 5 lessons sanding my bloody plastic and moaning to my friends
wood - book shelf ends (didn't even collect them in the end cos he wanted 3 quid for them and i kept forgetting to take it in)
textiles - a cute teddy even though my teacher cut the ear off because she didnt have enough thread to go round it :( gave it to my grandma and auntie but i want it back so bad
product design - we didn't make anything but planned. we done dragons den basically
food - made more complex stuff like flapjacks and got tested on making the best cheese whirls but with a twist (adding a meat for example or w/e)

I think I made a clock but it was my worst lesson of the week and I absolutely HATED it so I don't thinkkk I ever finished bc I didn't actually go to the lesson much.

First thing I made in woodwork/manufacturing was a CD holder then a DVD holder. Still in use today. Also some cup place mat things, the things you place under you cup so liquid doesn't go on the table... yeah, those.

oh i remember making something else too. was one of those things where if metal touches metal it buzzed (like that operation board game) and i THINK it was that thing where you guide the hoop to the other side without it touching, but if it wasn't that it was something similar. never finished mine. took me ages to get it to buzz and then was so happy with that achievement that i gave up

oh and we made a speaker.

also made a cushion in sewing and a bag
