US Liberals aren't gonna like this.

Illegal border crossing is down 40% in President Donald Trump's first month in office. The drop? 31,578 to 18,762. According to border patrol, they normally see a 10 to 20% increase between the months of January and February. The extremity of this drop is good news for our border! Why this has happened? Well, I think that Trump's presidency has scared some people into not wanting to cross the border because they know that illegal immigrants will not be welcome here.

Again, awesome news for me and other conservatives. Part of the article by Fox News:

The number of people illegally crossing the U.S. southern border has dropped 40 percent in President Trump’s first full month in office, Homeland Security Secretary John Kelly said Wednesday.

U.S. Customs and Border Patrol reported that the number of illegal border crossings dropped from 31,578 to 18,762 persons. Kelly said border agents usually see a 10 to 20 percent increase in illegal immigrant apprehensions from January to February.

“The drop in apprehensions shows a marked change in trends,” Kelly said. “Since the administration’s implementation of executive orders to enforce immigration laws, apprehensions and inadmissible activity is trending toward the lowest monthly total in at least the last five years.”

The new numbers are welcoming news for Trump who campaigned on illegal immigration crackdown.

How can you put a figure on that though?

If they've illegally crossed you don't know, what you mean is that the amount CAUGHT has dropped 40% surely?

Why would they illegally cross the border, they know the US are going to employ them to build a wall ;)

You would know if they've crossed illegally. It's only illegal if you get caught. ;) But yeah, agreed. It would be the number caught.

Less people want to enter a country? Yes sure that can only be a good thing, one's country being less desireable.

I'd be all for having people pour across the border... ONLY if the world was perfect and we didn't have to deal with the threat of terrorism and the fact that we Americans pay for the illegal immigrants' hospitality through the tax system.

Hundreds of millions of Africans would love to move to western nations. Should we let them?

So the border patrols are celebrating not doing their job properly? I'm confused as to why "we aren't stopping people from breaking in as much" is a good thing

That's not the case at all. It means that there have been less people trying to get over the border. Are you saying that you expect there to be the same number of people attempting to cross every month?

Not a good expectation.

Not necessarily at all, it's only (because of the nature of these kind of stats, as has been noted already) about how many were caught - that certainly could mean less are trying it which is great or could mean more are being successful, which isn't :P

Which one do you think? If control is the same or more, it's going to be more intimidating especially with Trump in office. If control is less, then what you say is true, but I think it is highly unlikely due to the nature of what Trump is doing with the border.

Just to add this into the mix, DHS is also stating that the amount of smugglers/coyotes have increased.
