Do you look at the needle going in when having a blood test, if not what do you usually do when having one? Do you look away or think of other things?
I used to be so scared of them, I remember when I was young I had to have one and my parents already said to me to look away because otherwise I'd get too scared and freak out. I don't mind them so much anymore though!

Eh I probably wouldn't look straight at it, but I have no problems with needles.

I haven't had one in a couple of years when I was rushed to hospital, it's not that I mind them much, it's the fact that they can't find my veins very well so it takes a stupid amount of attempts to get my blood. I don't really think about looking, I don't mind as much after it's in and they're getting blood, although it was a little hard not to look when the needle fell out of my arm and I just saw blood coming out of my arm lmao.
I don't normally look at the needle but one time I got curious so I looked and almost passed out. Lol. It was sort of embarrassing.

Not enough water was the reason no blood was coming out?

It doesnt exactly help. There was blood coming out just not enough for them to test.

It's so annoying! I believe it'll be 7 years ago now, I had to go for an operation on my teeth to remove the caps where my crowns were and I decided I wanted to go under local anaesthetic so I would be awake, I just wouldn't be aware of what was going on. Firstly, the hospital had no numbing gel for my arms, so the needles went in with nothing, then every time it went in I screamed, my mum could hear me from the waiting room and she was in floods of tears - they couldn't find a vein. They had about 5/6 attempts then had the nerve to say "Should we just numb your mouth like normal?" I purposely didn't want that doing as I was scared of needles and the dentist at the time, and if I wanted that doing I would have used the dentist I trust! They had one more attempt and luckily they must have found one, because to this day I still have no idea what was going on in that operation, the sedation worked :P.

luckily ive never had to get one!
absolute despise needles and had SO much done with my mouth over the past few months (several fillings and four teeth out AT ONCE)
Few years ago I was really ill and the doctor wasn't sure what was wrong and suggested to come back in a week if i was the same and I'd need a blood test. I never went back and i was ill for another two weeks or so lmao
Would lke to be a blood donor and just put up with it for a little while but not sure yet

Along this line of topic. I went in for a scheduled teeth cleaning and without me knowing, they used this little grinder thing on a tooth. And my god did it hurt like burning hell.

Used to be really scared of having blood test id just wouldn't let them do it they were not going near me with that needle but idk why my fear of needles stopped but it doesn't bother me. I regularly donate blood and tbh the part where they take a little bit of blood from your thumb is worst than the needle.

I had a period where I was having blood tests anywhere from twice a day to once a week for about 2-3 months, so I'm pretty much used to them at this point. At first I was nervous but after the first one I realised how insignificant it actually is and would usually watch.
One time they messed up quite bad and my blood was just dripping everywhere. Good times.

Dripping everywhere. Oh god sounds scary!
I had a bad experience where the nurse couldn't get any blood and my veins kept collapsing and I nearly fainted. So now I always lie down and don't look!

i hate it
i lie down and look the other way
i had a really bad one with an "assistant/learner" nurse :( was like really scratchy n ugh sore
i just talk whilst it's getting done and was told to eat breakfast (obv u can't if you're doing a fasting one) cause it makes it easier to find your veins and obviously aids in if you feel fainty

Omg. That's scary. The worst thing that has ever happened to me was that when she had stuck the needle in, she dropped the needle and it bent my vein up and gave me such a huge bruise on my inner elbow. It hurt so bad and I barely could bend it.

lmao I remember it was Halloween and she said all the colour just drained out of my face and I would have done well as a ghost. I was really bruised too.

Yeah, no thanks. I have only had one sort of larger needle in when I broke my fingers and they had to break them back... I had both the needles in, and they also froze my whole hand and I don't know what gauge the needle was but it was huge and I was only like 12 when this happened.

Had a full blood work up to test my health in general.
I don't look at needles. I usually just grit my teeth, move my toes and concentrate on breathing.
I hate it when they can't find veins! Makes you feel like a pincushion.

I'm scared of the needle. One trick I use is to say to the phlebotomist that I am afraid. So that person will go gently. But yeah, I'm not sure whether really, it's not hurtful or that the one who insert the needle are pros.

I've had the problem where they're in the vein and nothing comes out. At once point I was getting blood tests every few days and my veins would just not give anything up so I had to drink loads of water, pump my fists, use hot packs and everything.
I get blood tests once a month now and I'm used to it so it's not bad. I can't look at the needle in my arm though even on TV hospital shows I can't watch anything get pushed into someone's skin!!

I had a health scare in summer and had to take a blood test and I nearly fainted, although this wasn't to do with the blood but my prospects.
That said, while my body went weak and faint went my mind and mood was remarkably stable. I'm in control until the end is my outlook.
