View Full Version : Does modern culture bother you?

Many liberals know where I stand on this issue. Modern culture really does bother me compared to traditional times, especially in the United States. AKA, treat women with respect, treat others how you want to be treated, engage with your neighbor, etc. These are very random examples but I find that many people don't follow them like our ancestors used to. Another example. If a kid misbehaved, he or she got her or his 'ass kicked' by the parents. Now, kids run free. Maybe that's why we have so many young criminals today? Who knows.
Tell me what you think about modern culture. Note that this doesn't have to be about political issues. :)

Where I live theres a lot of teenagers who get caught up with the wrong people then end up doing stupid things that ruin their life. Its quite sad.

That happens all over the world, I have my opinions on that but theres a lot of mothers who have their children young and are great mums and actually go back to school when their child is more settled which shows a lot of courage.

It does yeah but the decision in the first place is quite idiotic imo

Most of the time it's not something thats planned but I think schools do have to take some blame for young pregnancies like I personally don't think there's a lot of education about those sort of things. I remember at school I had maybe 4 lessons that was sex education and that was it, the rest you just sorta figure out on your own lmao.

There have always been shitty people in the world it's just that modern technology allows us to hear about it more now, whereas previously historical records and headlines were only really written about the big cheeses

Either that or you are solely focusing on the good guys.

Well one of us stated a proven truth about how history worked and the other made a nonsensical claim out of nowhere

You didn't prove anything lol. Made a claim and had nothing to back it up?

Nope that one was you, when you somehow came to the conclusion that I only focus on the good people in spite of my entire post being about how people throughout all of history have been awful. If you want proof of how the vast majority of all historical writing and archiving is to do with the rich and rulers, just look at any museum in the entire world. This shouldn't even be an argument, six year olds know this to be true

There's another baseless statement. You've given me nowhere to look and see why your claim is true except walk into a museum.

Are you really suggesting that history books include as much about Abdi Mahmoud the fisherman as they do about Pharaoh Nefertiti?

I feel like it's how parents act, not necessarily discipline. "Chavvy" people tend to have parents that swear a lot etc, whereas not "chavvy" people have parents who don't.
Just an observation, no data

I belong in the Victorian era.
In terms of architecture, city planning, manners, attitudes. I think, unlike the stereotype, it was one of the most exciting and open minded eras of history with free speech, ideas and interacting with other cultures. To read of new discoveries across the Empire in the colonies of animals, plants, fruits, foods, peoples - it must've been very exciting. Take me back to 1880s Liverpool so I can have a drink in a bustling dockside pub before hopping on a steam boat to the British Raj.
