Much of Britain today apart from Northern Ireland is voting in their local elections and Mayoral elections.

Not all areas are up for election as usual, so many areas like mine are voting for a City Mayor but not councillors. It purely depends on where you live and what electoral cycle your area is in (many councils elect a third of their composition every year so it takes a three-year cycle). The seats up for election today were last up for election in 2013.

The composition in this 'batch' currently stands at the following below.

Labour Party – 1,535 seats

Conservative and Unionist Party – 1,136 seats

Liberal Democrats – 484 seats

SNP – 438 seats

Plaid Cymru – 170 seats

UKIP – 146 seats

Green Party – 34 seats

So for an idea of how the night has gone, consult changes on those numbers.

I voted earlier for the Liverpool City Region Mayor. It was a two choice question so I put Conservative as first choice followed by Ukip as second choice. Given Liverpool is the strongest Labour area in the country fully expecting them to win hands down, if they don't get over 50% then that in itself is shocking. :P

What about you? Have you voted today, what in and who for?

Story of the night is Ukip completely collapsing into the Tories, Labour losing in areas that have been Labour since forever, Liberal Democrat fightback is non-existent, the SNP have shuddered to a grinding halt and Unionist voters are now rallying around the Tories.
