What do you think is the saddest movie/scene ever?

Mine's the Notebook and it's either this scene (after she argues with her mum too):

or this literally devastating one:

Requiem for a dream, the ending fucking oh my God. It's the only film I've ever cried at because it was just so powerful and sickening.

Oh also the monologue in that where she goes on about being alone was pretty sad too.

That film man, i watched it twice and I don't know why

Room (2015) is definitely the saddest film I've ever watched and weeped over!

The most desolate movie I have seen is probably House of Sand and Fog, but the saddest is likely Christmas in August or Pure Love. They both destroyed me. I also found Schindler's List, The Green Mile, Blue Valentine, Manchester by the Sea, Philadelphia, 20th Century Women and My Sassy Girl very affecting.

Then there's Spike Jonze's short film I'm Here, which is probably one of the most heart-breaking pictures I have seen.

The first sad one I think I ever watched was Marley and Me

There's sadder ones but that comes to mind as a really sad one.

Also, has anyone seen Hachi? I found that a bit sad

Still Alice makes me so sad, and The Pursuit of Happiness is one of those films that just screws with my mind, so many devastatingly sad moments but then also little moments of joy.

I was about to say both of them the ending in marley and me is just too sad i can't even watch it and Hachi is one my favourite films.

Coolrunnings always makes me cry at the end its not really sad but when they crash and still carry on and all the other teams that were laughing at them start clapping.

I don't get Marley & Me as a sad film or at least not because an old dog dies, I mean during the film Jennifer Aniston has a massively traumatic miscarriage that's far sadder than an animal going to sleep but it just gets brushed off in 5 minutes

and the miscarriage is very sad too but the film isn't about that, if it were 120 minutes of developing the relationship between the two main characters and this unborn child then yes it would be super super sad but its not. its about these two and their dog which starts their family.

and people love dogs, and script writers are very good at building and developing your emotions right up to where they want you before evoking a response such as the one you get in marley and me

Marley & Me is a masterpiece I watched it with my dog a couple of years ago and died of sadness

Meh guess I just connect more with human tragedy than an animal dying of old age, terrible of me to not get sad at the parts the writers wanted me to

I'd say Seven Pounds. I rewatched it a while ago and forgot how sad it was. I agree Marley and Me is sad but I've always grown up with dogs so I know how much it sucks when the time finally comes.

I'd have thought anyone growing up with dogs would be more emotionally connected to Marley and Me, same applies to plenty of other films and their topics.

I really hate perks? Both the book and film?

I mean they were FINE but I didn't think anything special at all....

maybe I should rewatch/read

Perks was definitely better as a book — I got a little emotional at the end, but mostly just because it was over. I like that the author also directed/wrote the film, but the book had a lot more substance and was more ambiguous. I felt like the film was too clear cut and I was not at all sold by Emma Watson as Sam.

Okay so I am going to be completely different but I'd say the saddest moment for me personally is in toy story 3 when Andy moves away to go to college and he leaves his toys behind because he's too old for them. I have to say I wept! :(
