yesterday paid for a DNA test by Ancestry.com which i'll have done (results) in a few weeks. the DNA test provides you with a breakdown of your genetic background etc. cost £79 but i'm really curious as to what will come up
i'm expecting a big Irish result given family history i know, but beyond a few generations i know nothing so should be cool to see if anything comes up or what % the Irish is to English, Scottish and Welsh etc. one theory i have for my curly black hair and darker skin/brown eyes is that maybe there's an iberian element - the so-called "Black Irish" - from the Armada because my second name is from the west coast of Ireland and that's where the Spanish Armada landed in the 1500s.
i'll post results when they come but I wondered what do you know or SUSPECT of your family history?

i did the 23andme one. i'm 100% european SHOOK.
i have a slight risk of macular degeneration
prediposed to weigh less than average
more likely to consume more caffiene
shit loads of neanderthal variants
not a deep sleeper
muscle composition similar to power atheletes
some other fun stuff. interesting people argue whether my eyes are blue or green and my results were like 35% likely blue 32% likely green similar for my hair colour something like 33% likely dark blonde 32% likely light brown

Mainly scottish (obviously) and possibly some irish, I don't really know anything about my family history - as far back as my family knows, it's all been scottish!
I've been wanting to do this for a while and might soon, it'd probably shock me seeing all of the different results.
i've been wanting to do this for a while but no money. i've gone quite far in my family tree so i'd be surprised to see anything but welsh there

Do you actually believe this nonsense? I'm pretty confident that if you sent in 2 samples it would generate 2 different results.
Didn't anyone see the program where they did this but sent in dog saliva samples and it generated a load of rubbish

My profile states where my sample currently is and I can't stop checking it!!! Today it's just gone from 'Arrived' to 'Lab Processing' and they say like could be 7-8 weeks and it now says allow 2-4 weeks so i'm expecting it pretty soon as it doesn't seem they're too busy atm.

for anyone thinking of doing it here's a family demo with their results

This really interests me, you need to post a big thread with your results! I want to see all the graphs and charts that come with it. :)
