Catalan Parliament declares the Catalan Republic

Government of Catalonia has declared independence from the Kingdom of Spain

- Spain gripped by it's worst constitutional crisis since the death of General Franco
- Spanish Senate activates Article 155 of the Kingdom's constitution suspending Catalonian autonomy
- Expected Madrid will arrest Catalan government figures for treason
- Streets of Barcelona filled with independence supporters celebrating
- Pro-independence towns take down the Spanish and EU flags

At the time of its proclamation, the Catalan Republic had no recognition from any sovereign nation. Currently, Andorra, Argentina, Bulgaria, Canada, Colombia, Cyprus, the Czech Republic, Estonia, Finland, France, Georgia, Germany, Republic of Ireland, Italy, Latvia, Lithuania, Malta, Mexico, Moldova, Norway, Panama, Poland, Portugal, Serbia, Turkey, Ukraine, the United Kingdom and the United States have issued statements not recognizing the Catalan Republic as a independent entity and supported Spain's territorial integrity.

Illegal referendum, and as soon as they declared independence the real Spanish govt declared direct law over the region lmao. Some people don't know how to lose
