laryngitis??? (also guess how long my voice is gone and win furni)

I FINALLY have a sort of official diagnosis for me losing my voice!


For those that don't know I lose my voice probably once a month, every other month when I get a cold. The last time I lost it in December I didn't have a voice for 10 days!!! Before then it was about a week - it seems to be getting longer every time I lose it!! :(

I woke up this morning with a really sore throat and coughing up blood / bits of throat (ik, vile) so as it seemed more serious I decided to message the doctors who have said I've probably got an infection - most likely laryngitis - and I need antibiotics

AM I FINALLY GOING TO BE HEALED who knows? anyone else had a throat/chest infection like this??

place a bet below on how long I don't have a voice for this time though!! if someone gets it right I'll give you like 10c idk something cool a cool bit of furni

My mum had laryngitis on her wedding day! When she had to say "I do" she just nodded and whispered it like she was upset haha and she couldn't speak to anyone much all day.

She still has vocal problems she had a vocal chord operation but she loses her voices every now and then too.

On a serious note, losing voice for that long isn't something simple. Did you check with your doctor? Any update? It might be something serious but I hope it's not. How was your other symptoms? Any cough (with or without blood), increase weight/lose weight, fever, trouble sleeping etc? Or is it just the voice problem that stays?

yeah I know hahaha, I've been docs and everything! i wouldn't leave it this long!

i have a muscle condition, the muscles that control my vocal chords are permanently in spasm so they can't move to form noises. it's called dystonia if you're interested! caused by stress and triggered by a minor cold :)

All I know is that I was diagnosed with muscle tension dysphonia caused by stress and anxiety. I’ve had several scans and there’s nothing physical causing it.

Oh I see. So, you just need to control your triggering factor (stress and anxiety). If it gets worse, do continue your check up with your doctor. I wish you all the health needed :)

sooooooooo ive been to the specialist clinic today it was vile the appointment and the tests but a good outcome i guess??


they think all my symptoms (things i didnt even realise were symptoms/i chalked up to other things like allergies) are caused by acid reflux so I will be starting medication for that and hoping it works. Yay for having a cause too!

acid reflux treatment is so rubbish though it's all like HEY CUT OUT ALL FOOD AND DRINK THAT'S NICE IN YOUR LIFE BE MISERABLE ;(((

Thanks!! I’ve started to really notice things like bile rising or food feeling stuck in the last 24 hours which are like massive signs that I think I just ignored before!!

This morning was funny though I bumped into a loud loud colleague of mine who didn’t even notice cos she was talking over me so much until I mentioned it hahaa!! Everyone at work is kinda just like.. used to the voice now but occasionally (like this morning) they say oh you’ve lost your voice again? Nah soz never got it back [emoji23]

Trying to eat smaller meals and better choices to minimise the risk or effects! Also helps with the diet ofc

yeah thats not good! i hate that feeling, like heartburn and nausea all mixed together in a feeling of death and dismay! lol

your a trooper though! maybe its just because im a guy, and when were sick, or not feeling well all we do is bitch and complain hahah, i know i would be!
dont you just love those colleagues! they talk so fast and often, telling you all of their million stories over the long weekend, you can never get a word in! if you didn't mention it im sure they would never be the wiser. you need to go into work one day with a electronic voice changer and give everyone the scare of a lifetime, talk so low and raspy they might start to think your getting better! hahaha

For any of you keeping track Sunday marked 6 months since I had a voice but I've been going to speech therapy a few times and it's coming and going a bit more now which is great, I feel almost normal again! Should have it fully back within a month or two :)

Over two months................ I wish!!! It was about EIGHT AND A HALF months by the time I got it back - just after I left my last job!

I'm doing sooo much better now. My voice is pretty much back to how it was before, but it's something that's likely to crop up again so I'm still working on my vocal techniques and stress coping mechanisms but so much healthier since I left that horrible environment :) thank you!!
