Avoid Baggage Fees

Some of you may remember I posted a little while back about not wanting to go to a wedding later this year because I didn't want to pay to travel to the location. Things have happened since then and I ended up reluctantly agreeing to go, but I want to save as much as I can so I feel better about it. After I booked my flight, I saw that I will have to pay an additional £25 to have a bag fly with me, but I want to keep that £25 for myself. I was thinking I could just wear all my clothes instead. It's only a four day trip, so I was thinking of wearing like two different outfits and then my suit over the top. I could probably squeeze my toiletries and electronic stuff into somebody else's bag, so that's fine, but is there anything preventing me from just wearing my luggage? I don't fly often.

The last few times I've travelled, you were allowed to take luggage on the plane with you as a carry on without paying any extra fees so I had a small suitcase with my clothing, etc. in and didn't put anything with the rest of the luggage. Isn't that something that they'd allow you to do? For 4 days, you could put your clothes into a backpack and have a suit bag for your suit that you carry on as well.

It's with cheapo Ryan Air and they only allow the smallest ever bag on board, so that's not an option sadly.

Since you are flying with Ryanair, you can actually have a small suitcase free of charge. Rules have recently changed but this still applies. You can take a small bag with you on the plane and then one small suitcase which now goes into the hold of the plane for free.


Non-Priority
If you have not purchased Priority & 2 Cabin Bags, you are only permitted to bring 1 small bag on board. Your second 10kg bag will be tagged at the gate and put into the hold free of charge.

Your small bag (e.g. handbag, laptop etc.) must not exceed 35x20x20cm and should easily fit under the seat in front of you.

Your second 10kg bag must be 55x40x20cm in size and must fit into the sizers at the gate before being tagged and put into the hold free of charge.

Main points highlighted in bold. You should be able to get all your stuff in the small case if it's only for a small number of days? I've managed a full week of clothes and stuff for a week in Italy with ryanair. If you're going to decide to wear everything, then remember to make it A) Not suspicious as fuck B) It might be a nightmare for security.

Yeah, I wasn't planning on walking around looking like the Michelin Man, but if I am discovered wearing hordes of clothes I wonder how it would look. Thanks for that information about the bags — I could probably squeeze in everything I'll need.

You'll be fine, cheap airlines charge little on flights, expensive on baggage, as it's 4 days personally I'd just take a suitcase to avoid the hassle but its up to you

As someone who works in Airport Security. I can tell you, we don't care if you're wearing multiple layers, we know the reason people do it and have no concerns. Don't worry about it :)

My friend, I seek your guidance. Are power banks typically allowed on flights? I'm seeing conflicting responses. Mine is only 5200mAh. It has been almost a decade since I last set foot on an aeroplane.

You shouldn't have a problem. I've taken a 13000mAh power bank with no one battling an eye lid to Mexico and Europe destinations.

Nice! I saw that some people had asked Ryan Air on Twitter, and they said while they don't have restrictions up to a limit, it's down to airport security. I didn't think mine would be a problem, but thought it best to check. Thanks!

If I'm not mistaken you can bring it on flight but not through cargo (as checked in baggage).

Apologies for the late reply :D Yeah Powerbanks are fine. There are limits on how many watt hours your batteries can be. But nobody cares/checks those :P

I suggest you just pay the £25. It isn't going to break you. Pack your items in your luggage along with your toiletries. Don't pack a lot.

I'm already in Ireland. Didn't pay anything extra - you're allowed a small bag on board and another below 10kg in the hold for free, but honestly they didn't even properly check. I could have easily brought both on board. I already paid £400+ just to go to the wedding, so I think £25 and anything extra is absolutely worth saving whether it would break the bank or not.
