Mistletoe tradition

Do you actually do the mistletoe thingy? Do you really kiss the person who stood with you under the mistletoe? What if you are straight but you (a guy) stood under that stuff with another guy (or for gay people, with a girl). I wonder if this tradition only exists in movie or even in real life. Lmao.
