okay so a question for girls or boys/girls with a girl partner

i had the implant for 4 years and it was sooo great literally loved it lol until november i started bleeding through, took the pill with the implant, stopped the pill and carried on bleeding through the implant, took the pill again then started bleeding through the pill and the implant so a couple weeks back i took my implant out
went to the doctors and they said just get the coil so had an appointment booked to get the coil, then had sex and completely forgot i didnt have the implant lol
had to get the morning after pill and so im not able to get the coil 3 weeks from then so i can do a pregnancy test because of the chance of it not working lol
so the week later, a condom split lol had to get morning after pill AGAIN and now have to wait another 3 weeks from then til i can get the coil
went to the doctor and was like can i get anything whilst im waiting for the coil and they said you can get the implant but doesnt work for you, the patch or the pill lol i asked for the injection but theyre not allowed to give because the same reason of the coil : )

so i put the patch on and i swear it literally made me depressed (even tho its the same hormones as the pill??) so had to rip the patch off and was like nah fuck this and now im back to taking the pill
issue is the pill really isnt a long term fix for me im so shit at taking it and im sick all the time so really doesnt suit me

i know different people have different experiences with different contraceptions but wondered what any of you hve had and how it was
what has worked or what works for you/your partner

im not ready for a baby just yet x

Pill gave me migraines on the week off and same I'd forget about it as you have to take it around the same time every day and I was always doing something and would forget.

Implant is the best for me. Last time I had it I bled for like 6 months then it was only every couple months so it was perfect.
I got it again and literally for a month after the day I got it I felt like throwing up every morning lol. I also had a period for like 11 days where I was extremely hormonal and my mental health not great. One good thing though is I've only had one migraine since and that was when I had my period AND was ill with the flu. So hopefully it's gonna help with stopping my periods and therefor stopping my hormones and hopefully I won't be getting a migraine every month like I was.

I dunno what to do once my implant stops because my hormones are crazy on my normal cycle and the pill makes my migraines worse. My mum said her migraines stopped when she got pregnant so I guess I just gotta get knocked up ASAP xx

I was on the progesterone pill for about 6 years - the oestrogen one gave me awful awful migraines and didn't actually *stop* my periods which is what I need it for really (other medical conditions make them unbearable).

That was absolutely no problem at all except I was sometimes forgetting to take it which would bring on a DEMON PERIOD so yah.

I've been on the depo injection for about 3 years now and absolutely love love love it. One jab every 3 months, over so quickly, barely hurts at all, no things to remember or coil/implant inside you (this personally really freaks me out) and apparently they're going to be prescribing them out so you can do it at home if you're not scared of jabbing yourself. Would highly highly recommend!!!!!!

i mean really id just say its worth being celibate for a month to get the method that's fully actually gonna work for you!!

when I got the pill, rigevidon (combined), I was told i'd be fine with my migraines because I didn't get aura …. so I never put 2 and 2 together when I kept getting migraines once a month...
when I went to get the implant and she asked all these questions I told her I was getting bad migraines and she said I should never have been put on rigevidon!!
and yeah if i'd even start the pill for 2 days and maybe missed one or two days by mistake i'd get a fucking period. fuck the pill man honestly, so much better methods.
I really wanted to try the injection but i'm worried about injections and i'm probably not gonna have babies for the next 2.5 years anyway so the implant is a worthy investment. but I deffo won't be going back on the pill if I need short-term birth control at any point in future, i'll deffo be trying the injection.

I did get all the classic symptoms so the docs were really quick to pull me off it which was really good I'm grateful for that!! And I'm the same with if I missed even 1 day it'd be like floodgates. They're so easy to miss, and you have to remmeber to take them at the same time which when you're in uni and don't have much of a routine is so difficult tbh.

Honestly I hate needles but the injection is fine. They do it in the top bit of your bum where the fatty bit is you honestly can't feel it at all. It aches for a few days after but completely bearable!! I don't think I could do it to myself even if it would be like 24 thousand times easier. In a way an implant would be easier because it lasts for so long but I've seen them in ppl and it kinda just grosses me out (sorry) having something inside me like that. Would rather go to docs 4 times a year!!

Gina; did you only use the patch one time? I've been on it for about 4-5 years now and I noticed I was getting very moody when it came to my patch change day and I was advised to make sure I changed it at near enough the same time every week! It's been fine since then, I just think I'm probably used to it by now. I know a lot of people say birth control makes you depressed and has a negative impact on your mental health - I guess I'll only notice that when I'm off the patch which definitely won't be for a few years.

lawrawrrr; if the injection ever stops being the best one for you the patch might be good too! You don't have to worry about sorting it out every day just once a week and then on your 'patch free week' you get a couple of days before the start of your period.

When I was younger, I couldn't take tablets properly and I didn't fancy going on the pill at all, nor did I want the implant or the injection. It was googling contraception that I found the patch and thought that would be the best thing for me. I do sometimes worry when I have a bath though when it comes a bit loose, but I know I'm still protected for a while after that. One thing I would say is if you are going away and your patch change day isn't happening on your holiday, I'd take spares anyway! In October I went to Blackpool and I stuck it on before I went and remembered I was going swimming and wanted to move it so it wouldn't be on show in my costume; I moved it and just had a 'feeling' that it might not stay on (I was right I went swimming with big slides and it came off at about 11am that day, I got back to the hotel around 6-7 and put the spare one I had on and luckily it was fine. I'm just so glad I took it with me lmao).

I think in my family though I'm the only one birth control has been fine for, I know when my mum was younger she had a few different pills she went with and none of them worked for her!

Oh yeah I've just realised! It does say you might not bleed, but I wouldn't take that as Gospel, I've had a period every month since I started on it so it probably won't be suitable for you. I know you can delay it, but you can only delay it so it's every 6 weeks as far as I know.

Yeah I haven’t had a full proper period in almost a decade and I don’t plan to now

I started on them a few weeks ago, I have to remember to take them or im going to be on when it is inconvenient, I think I went on them because I used to get stomach cramps all the time.
I used to have the injection every 3 months so I didn't have one, those made my hormones go crazy so I used to eat more and it made me bloat. Now if i stick to the tablets im fine.
They have dates on for a reason.

being on the pill was fine until i had a kidney infection and got told by different doctors said my antibiotics might affect the pill and others said it wouldnt but no one would tell me how itd affect the pill if it did so just ended up listening to the ones who said it wouldnt affect it
so hopefully im not pregnant lmfao x will update u in 3 weeks

lawrawrrr; you said youre on injection, have you considered the one you self inject or you gonna just stick to leaving it to the doctor?

awww fair enough thats such a shame it isnt for u! seeing as your place is so near it probably wouldnt make much of a difference anyway in terms of convenience then

and yeh i have weekends off now so maybe ill look online and see what weekend ones they have near me, thank u! x

it deffo would be easier to just go to the cupboard/fridge than have to give up a lunch break but honestly for the sake of 4 times a year I’m not gna complain too much

sorry 2 bump the thread, thought itd be easier than making a whole new one lol!

so in the end I ended up getting the mirena coil and it was all going great until a month ago when i started non stop bleeding and having really bad cramps, finaaaally pulled myself to the doctors on monday where they checked my coil but they couldnt find it lol! so have to go to hosp next week so they can hunt for my coil and check my cervix which is now super inflamed (soz a super tmi post)
they've said my cervix is either being super irritated by the hormones or the coil has displaced and is hitting the cervix wall or something
so if its because of the first option, i'll have to stop taking hormonal contraception lol and if its the latter i'll have to get it removed and put back in but i dont think i want the extra stress of a coil again !!!!!

has anyone had issues like this with coil before pls or have issues with hormonal contraception ???? what do u do ??? my only hormonal choices left are mirena or injection and only non hormonal (afaik) is copper coil (or condoms but just dont wanna deal with that lol)

plz any suggestions or experiences would be great, what is injection like pls

this post made me cringe AF that sounds so bad you must be in pain????

But as I said before I’ve been on the depo injection for literally years now and I’m the biggest fan. I think it has caused me to gain weight, but it could just be coincidence with age as well?

It’s not even that painful, it’s slightly annoying having to go in literally every 12 weeks but it you have a good local place that does it then you’ll be golden. They are also introducing self injection ones so you can keep a years at once!

lmk if you have specific questions about the depo shot!

loool yes my insides are dying !!! but am coping

yes my friend had injection too and made her gain weight so am para but like all hormonal contraception can have that impact I guess so, I think that is the only bit that puts me off
have u ever left it too long like if you couldn’t get it done on that 12th week ? or ever had any issues with it ? and I know it’s diff for everyone but have u had any side effects from it !

Shannon

Ironically I'm not actually on any contraception. Because I have irregular periods (proberbly why I can get really hormonal), taking the pill would only cause me to get regular periods - even then the combinations available don't suit me as a person, and the single element pills often lead to issues later in life.

I have previously asked for the injection but the doctor was vile and wouldnt give me it (considering I'm a needle phobic it was a huge blow).

I used to always take the morning after pill as a precaution but the side effects were really not worth the effort.

So I stick to the good old condom.

you should AIM for 12th week but you can usually book an appointment any time between 11 and 14 weeks, it just obviously becomes a little less effective as it starts to wear off. I've had it done on 13th week before, but I'm pretty good at putting reminders in my phone to book an appointment each time.

I've literally NEVER had a side effect from the actual jab, and I have had allergic reactions to injections in the past many times before. It makes ya bum a bit sore (like it's been bruised) but completely fine otherwise, I literally get it done in my lunch break from work and head back to work after. I really don't like needles but it's a small one so it's really not that bad!
Shannon; wtf why would a doctor REFUSE it that's insane? the injection (and the progesterone pill) have pretty much stopped my periods, it's a relief not to have to deal with that and the other issues around them lmao

so a nice update x

i went to the hospital last week with an appointment with the gyno person who looked inside me with a microscope - bloody WILD no one told me it was a man who was gonna do it !!!!!!! traumatic but its ok its over
he found my coil threads which was wonderful n some abnormal cells but he said i'll be fine until my smear when im 25, man had to give me something to look forward to :---) x
he said he is concerned that it might be displaced in my womb tho so need an ultrasound still but the waits are really long atm cos of covid so im just chillin n waiting with my bad cramps n bleeding but oh well what can u do

if it is displaced i will get out and get the injection i think but am just petrified of piling on weight from it
if it is cos of hormones, only choice i have is copper coil so if any1 has an experience with it pls pls hmu

and if neither of those work, i will accept that it is god telling me its time to have a baby :- )))))

but also this post made me fully gag

serious question for you: why is the injection so bad when you're happy to put foreign objects (e.g. plastic implant, coppper coil) inside you? Like sorry if this comes off harsh but I share your fear about needles and injections and putting on weight but having something INSIDE ME has always grossed me out. Chemicals fine!! not things.

Hahahah genuinely is

I think it’s because my mum made me get the implant when I was 15 so the thought of getting things in me never scared me after that lol if it was other way around and I had the pill first I’d probs be petrified but I went straight in the deep end sooo ! odd literally the opposite thought of u because I’ll have anything put in me like meh whatever but thought of getting stuff injected in me is nty
I don’t even have a fear of needles lol blood tests tattoos whatever easy
