Just under 12 days until Season 8 airs - who’s excited???
Who do you want to see on the Iron Throne? What do you think is going to happen??
My boyfriend and I are trying to rewatch everything before 8 starts but we’re only on season 5 so I don’t think we’ll make it unless we skip season 6 sigh

Also, I read this article (https://www.newyorker.com/culture/personal-history/emilia-clarke-a-battle-for-my-life-brain-aneurysm-surgery-game-of-thrones) recently by Emilia Clarke. She had a brain aneurysm shortly after the first season of Game of Thrones, and another later on. It was heartbreaking to hear that somebody who always seemed so lively and upbeat wanted to end it all and die at one point. It's a great read — crushing and astonishing, but brilliant all the same.

It's been a week since the premiere already and nobody is talking about it? Episode 2 got leaked — just finished watching it. It was a massive closure episode, feels like half the cast are going to die next episode. Isaac Hempstead Wright (Bran) said in an interview that episode 3 is "going to be something else." Every episode left is apparently much longer than usual, too. I think Tyrion, Missandei and/or Grey Worm, Brienne, Theon, and Jorah are high on the death list.

No-one's talking about ep 1 because literally nothing happened lololol
And yeah they have to kill off lots of people very quickly now because they have to end the entire series (all of the "good" guys dying and Bran/the walkers taking over the world) in not many episodes

Prepare for ALLLLL THE DEATHS
i want Tormund, Brienne and Jaime to survive and have a loving three way relationship for the rest of their merry lives and have wonderful ginger and blonde babies together
Episode 2 got leaked online hours before it's release... I found this out because of all the spoilers I found whilst browsing the internet unknowingly.
I haven't watched it yet, but plan to today at some point... Maybe whilst I'm tucking into the BBQ I have planned for later

I'll prob just watch it tomorrow unless the leak is a decent quality
The leak was okay quality from what I heard.. 480p I think, but since it's already been released now, there are 1080p versions of it around.
Next Episode is going to be a good one from how number 2 ended.

Ep1 was just people turning up for the party oop norf and Cersei wanting to get bummed by an elephant down south.
Also they seem to have shitloads of obsidian now so they should pack it into barrels and just drop it from dragonback like clusterbombs pew pew tiny bit of shrapnel will make a walker turn into dust

Episode one was all about The Look™
https://thumbs.gfycat.com/DarlingSharpBangeltiger-size_restricted.gif
And also Jon's parentage which Ned promised to tell him about literally eight years ago.
Some of the writing was a bit shoddy in episode two though, like when Jorah walked into a room and said "Forgive me, Khaleesi." to spur on a conversation about how he was been forgiven before. Felt really manufactured.

Spoilers in spoiler OBV but some of my thoughts:
-Sending the Dothraki was... utterly pointless. The entire lot got massacred in less than a minute which is kinda what happens when you send a few hundred naked dudes against armoured spirits that only exist to fight.
-We saw massive wagons full of obsidian arrive oop norf, and then there are like 6 weapons made from it. It doesn't do any different damage to wights than a normal weapon so it's only good for taking out the big bad walkers... so WHAT WAS THE POINT OF THAT TRIP TO DRAGONSTONE?
-Why not start the fires AT THE BEGINNING 4god don't think oh shit thousands of our best warriors are dead maybe we'll start defending now. Tyrion is there, isn't he a tactician?
-Same with the dragons: use them tactically. Don't just fly around being chased and shot at, force a chokepoint and have them breathe constant fire into it from behind an armoured wall. Make that out of the obsidian you pointlessly mined if you want.
-Ahahahaha Lyanna getting slapped aside by zombie Wun Wun. Incredible scenes.
-How many millions of times are we going to see someone about to be killed and at the LAST!!! SECOND!!! someone stabs their attacker through the face? It happened like five times in this episode alone.
-How the fuck didn't Sam die.
-The wights plodding around the library like they were looking for the social psychology section made me piss.
-Where was zombie Hodor in all this?

All-in-all I liked the episode, but it was clearly designed to be spectacle over all else. It made no tactical sense. Theon and Jorah are two of my favourite characters, and I think they were given fitting ends. Alfie Allen is a tremendous talent. Though they both met sad ends, I think they were both finally at peace. Visually it was amazing and the music was fantastic. My jaw was agape throughout the entire climatic scene, but my reaction afterwards was kind of... Is that it? The Night King died so easily. The very first scene in the very first season introduces the White Walkers. For seven seasons we've been told they're coming. Now they're here... They're gone? The Night King was built up to be the ultimate threat, but now he seems like more of a subplot. I thought there was so much more they could have done, and judging from what we saw in season seven and so far in season eight, I don't really understand why the seasons have been shortened. The pace is so fast now compared to the earlier seasons. It's the biggest TV show in the world, but they seem to be wrapping it up so quickly. I hope Bran reveals some detail next episode, because if they leave the Night King as is and move on with Cersei, as a long-time viewer I am just not satisfied. Let the Night King have his moment!

Yeah, Jon was a bit aimless. There were some good scenes, but they lacked a lot of substance and emotional weight. The long take of him ambling through Winterfell was a far cry from the one during the Battle of the Bastards. I don't really know why he had to ride Rhaegal also. The Dragons have all followed command from Daenerys before, it's not like he needs to be there now. They knew the Night King was going for Bran, and since they know killing him will kill all Wights and Walkers, they should have amassed some forces around the weirwood, but instead they just put Theon there. Sam the Slayer works in mysterious ways. They barely showed him attacking anything, but every time they would cut back to him he would be surrounded by more and more bodies.
How shit was Jon in the entire episode all he did was run and hide even Sam did more fighting
How shit was Sam though, thought he was gunna turn into a fighter. What a let down... deffo should have died.

That was utter dogshit. I was going to make a short list of the worst parts but it turned into a long list because so much was just rubbish
Oh seeya later Varys, that was an uneventful way to end the most interesting character. Guess he wasn't Disney Prince enough for the new writers.
WHY DIDN'T YOU TAKE OFF THE GOLDEN HAND oh gd idea m8 *strolls into city with golden hand still on*
Guess someone in production learned how to turn the brightness and contrast up.
I see the "bad guys" are now basically Stormtroopers, totally unable to shoot down one massive target even with hundreds of weapons specifically made for that target that have taken down 2 dragons already.
Tyrion just having a stroll why not...
Oh look she burned everyone alive after the surrender like we all knew she would.
Oh look they're raping and killing civilians, what a terrible plot device just to make Jon look MORE noble. How quaint.
Oh look a main character is the only survivor of a massive slaughter/wreck again. How quaint.
Oh look one of the heroes got stabbed fatally but still won and walked away. How quaint.
Oh look Darth Gregor can suddenly disobey his master and has an actual face unlike the absolute specifics of his character. How quaint.
Oh look Darth Gregor took forever to make a simple kill and so managed to get himself killed. How quaint.
Oh look Arya's invincible even when an entire city is levelled and burnt to a crisp. Not even quaint just awful writing.
And now there's a horse. What.
What.

I was so outraged by the last episode... Death to everyone.

new writers.
There aren't new writers. Episode five was written by David Benioff & D. B. Weiss, who have been the show runners since the beginning. I really think they've lost steam. I keep reading reports (don't know how valid they are) that they're kind of over with GOT and want to move on to other things (like their new Star Wars contract). Apparently HBO wanted the usual ten episodes, but D&D said they would get it done in six. I re-watched season seven before eight began, and before that I had watched the series thus far twice over. Season one to four are brilliant, and season five and six are decent, with some very good moments. In comparison, season seven and eight are so rushed with none of the intrigue that made the other seasons so great. I still enjoy it for the characters, but they have basically been reduced to pitiful husks. Such a shame.

Oh I meant new writing as in not GRRM :P can't see him turning it into this trope-filled virtue signalling mess after having crafted his characters so carefully. I know it's being made for a simple American audience but GoT isn't supposed to have happy endings with the "I was nothing now I'm king of the world because of fate" nonsense that you get in every 13 year old's fantasy story

How does Tyrion know that's where they died
krr krr krr smash beetles
What the fuck is happening with the Dothraki they seem to be multiplying like rabbits even though they all got killed by the zombies
Sort your life out Jon and Greyworm, could at least have a wash before the big Hitler speech
Oh shut up Jon ya nonce
Why would a dragon have a nap under a snowdrift
"I imagined a mountain of swords too high to climb" yeah that's what it was meant to be before the showrunners changed it to the Armchair Of Hate
Did anyone not know that was going to happen
Go on Drogon, eat her. Go on ya fucking lizard have her chargrilled
Meeting of the heads of the houses ps: Davos Arya and Bran are there too because errr errr yeah PLOT DEVICE
Oh shut up Sam ya nonce
Literally the worst choice for king, he openly says he doesn't give a shit about the present or future all the time
What are the Night's Watch gonna do any more and how does the king of the ---six--- kingdoms have the authority to send people there when it's in The North
RIP Greyworm, if the writers had read the books they'd know that anyone who isn't from Naath dies of horrible fevers if they go to the island
Is Arya planning to sail out alone does she think she's Reepicheep or something
Go on Brienne, write that Jaime was a **** who took your virginity then ran off to his sister straight after
Who rebuilt the city isn't everyone dead
This council is surely amusing but also utterly terrible, good thing everyone's dead so they don't actually have to rule over anyone
That gate is well flimsy
Oh. It's finished. Ok.

That ending was TRASH. I wouldn't even be mad if Daenerys woke up at the very end after falling asleep on the throne and the last fifty minutes were all a dream. Isn't everyone in King's Landing DEAD? Is anybody going to address that? When has Arya ever shown an interest in exploration? That seems like such a cheap attempt to leave the door slightly ajar for an Arya spin-off. Why is there even a Night's Watch anymore? What are they watching? Apparently that doesn't mean anything, anyway. Jon just leaves to begin his nomadic life beyond the wall. Drogon should have killed him after Jon killed Daenerys. I don't mind Bran being King. I always see a lot of hate for his character, but I like Bran. But the circumstances by which he became king are stupid. I think Daenerys should have still gone super genocidal, but it should have been more gradual. Her character arc was always going that way (this is a good write up (https://www.reddit.com/r/gameofthrones/comments/bo1ast/spoilers_found_on_twitter_apparently_grrm/)), but because of the pace, it lacked finesse and felt very weak. Much more should have been done with the Night King, too. The whole plot line of trying to get Cersei to help fight the dead should have never happened. Season seven and eight needed the usual ten episodes. It's a shame it has to go out this way. Peak Game of Thrones was the best television that has ever been made.

I actually liked the ending - It was a nice way to just end the show. I mean the only other way which I think a few people may have thought more people would have died in the end.
Isn't everyone in King's Landing DEAD? Is anybody going to address that?
Do we know that though? We don't know how many survived - I don't think a number was mentioned in the last episode. Just that the fact they needed food.
When has Arya ever shown an interest in exploration? That seems like such a cheap attempt to leave the door slightly ajar for an Arya spin-off.
Nearly the whole show, she never really stayed at home in Winterfell. Sure there are reasons for that but it just continues and is it really that hard to not see that Arya is the type of person who loves to have a good adventure and go exploring?
Why is there even a Night's Watch anymore?
It seems they are using it as some sort of prison / you've done something bad, you will go there sort of speak. I mean, its not really surprising Jon fucks off and goes beyond the wall.
Drogon should have killed him after Jon killed Daenerys
He's technically family so why would Drogon do that? He knows who Jon is.
While some of the episodes were not great and would be great to get the additional context and story we have all loved and enjoyed in previous seasons, I do believe the ending could have been a lot worse.

We literally see King's Landing burnt to the ground. There's only like two living civilians shown in the entire episode.

Yes, it is very hard to see that. It felt like some Pirates of the Caribbean-esque ending. Not to mention, can't Bran just tell her what's west of Westeros?
He's technically family so why would Drogon do that? He knows who Jon is.
Because he's a dragon. Family kills family throughout the entire show.
I think it's pretty clear from the ratings that many people are disgruntled. The show was extremely well plotted, with great detail and characterisation. Events such as Ned's beheading, the Red Wedding, the Purple Wedding, hold the door, Jon's death, and even the Sept of Baelor explosion worked because they were developed and built towards sufficiently. You're entitled to like whatever you want, but for me, these past two seasons lacked so much of what made the show great.

You do make some fair points and like you said, we can all have our own views on the ending. But to also add onto the Ayra part, season 6. There is an episode where Ayra is speaking to Lady Crane. She does actually bring up on that she would like to see what is West of Westeros. So this makes sense and isn't something out of the blue.

Ah, that's not so bad then. Still, it's a bit of an off-handed and isolated remark. They should have built that more into her character, and maybe it is that way in the books, but it felt kind of left field with everything else that's been going on. Revenge, revenge, revenge, revenge, travel!
