Will online games such as Habbo still be around in 5 years time?

Over the 15+ years Habbo has been around, it has slowly been on a decline with the amount of monthly visitors. I suspect a huge part of that was due to the 'grooming scandal' which was featured on the news back in 2012 which resulted in an investigation by Channel 4, also the fact that casinos were banned and the Great Habbo Mute which lasted almost 2 months before free chat came back.

With the already fall of once popular online game "Club Penguin" back in 2017 it begs the question; will Habbo eventually follow in the steps of Club Penguin and close down?

Club Penguin saw this decline from 2015 and closed down less popular versions of the game, that being their German and Russian servers, however it was to no avail. We have seen similar steps taken by Sulake with the merging of English speaking hotels to reduce costs and with Habbo bringing back old ranges of furni a lot (or simply re-colouring them), are they catering for the old/loyal players as opposed to trying to attract new players?

What do you think? Will online games such as Habbo be around in 5 years from now?

It is obvious that Habbo is not what it once was - due to how fast things change in the world of the internet. However, I believe Habbo will continue to live for the next few years. Sulake do keep bring out new stuff, just of late they have two games going, Habbo and Hotel Hideaway, I am sure each still give sulake a pretty penny or two.

Though, it be interesting to see if VR becomes a thing on habbo

As long as such games make a profit, they will persist. I'm not sure what impact (if any) it had, but I think Sulake releasing the game on mobile quite quickly was a good decision. Sadly, I think they've taken away more than they've added. I think a good selection of mini-games will keep people logging in (especially on mobile), even if only for a while. Stuff like wobble squabble, battle ball, and snow storm (is that still in the game). Add more incentives to play, daily log in rewards (that are better than duckets), and they can probably subsist for a while. The removal of casinos was a big blow. They could reinstate them for a boom, but I'm not sure of the ethics and such behind that. Like Jarkie says, too — there are other avenues they could explore, like VR. There was some BBC show on recently, where homeowners could plan their redesign and see how their home would look in VR before actually doing any real-life work. The room design aspect of Habbo has a lot of potential for VR, but it would be an enormous project. They would have to re-design the game from the ground up, and there would be limitations. I also can't imagine Sulake being first on the scene for such a thing, not to mention having the resources. It certainly will close unless there are some significant developments, but I don't think that time is particularly close.

I'm interested in Habbo's non-mobile future when Adobe drops support for Flash in 2020. I'm sure Habbo do not rely on Flash for their mobile app? Does anyone have any more info?

Honestly if they brought back the classic games I think alot of old players would return!
The amount of loyal old school players that are still around are the reason habbo is still standing.. due to most of them being 20+ and have jobs, I spend over £100 a month on Habbo so if even 5% of people did that they'd make quite a pretty penny!
So to answer the question, yes I believe habbo will still be around in 5 years time, because the newer players will also be around and become loyal like the old players now..

So I have no idea of the financial situation sulake have with keeping Habbo opening, but one way they could revive old users and new is re-releasing a fresh new hotel, a complete absolute fresh hotel but a retro version of the original, it'd also be very good to include battleball (screw snowstorm), give the users the power to run the hotel as in community staff if costs are a issue and reward them with credits.

Retro Habbo - Normal Habbo

We know what one wins.
