Excellent news, and goodbye to a disasterous piece of law brought in by Cameron and Clegg.

I said at the time in 2011 that this was messing with the constitution and would create unintended consequences, which it did during 2017 to 2019 when we had a Parliament that refused to break the deadlock over Brexit by going to the country in an election, with the PM left virtually powerless yet still in office. Our system works well because of flexibility, and the power to prorogue/dissolve Parliament on the advice of a Prime Minister remains a power of the Queen/President in most Westminster systems around the world.

It is good that the government is simply seeking to restore the power via the de facto royal prerogative rather than a complicated new bill.
